In my opinion, an amazing write, somber and plaintive in its articulation and simple artistry - the picture complements the piece perfectly in its haunting melancholy...

Hi Kahpot, this is a very good two line poem that sends out a sad message. There are many who, having fought for their country are buried in foreign lands and whose family would love to have them home. Good author notes telling what inspired you to write this poem. I shall look out for the film you mention in your notes. Regards Dorothy

I saw that movie too ... this is a powerful thought going on here. None of us want to die lonely especially when most of us were absolutely wanted at birth. I just shake my head and think that this one will make me think on it for days. xoxo Kiwi

A very evocative little piece which will speak to all who have close family members buried overseas. As we are at the centenary of some of the fiercest battles of WWI such as Passchendaele, I often think of the many soldiers from NZ and Australia who are buried there, many in unmarked graves. It has been touching to see some of the ceremonies where the Belgian and French people pay their respects to the brave men who came from the other side of the world to help liberate them.

It is perhaps a longing we all have, kahpot, for harmony - both of blood and of place - which you have expressed so simply here. We are all on that journey 'home' - harmony seems to make the way a little less daunting perhaps. Beautifully expressed.

I have seen that movie so can definitely relate to your poem friend, it is one of Crowe's better movies. It is sad to think about all the fallen souls who are still to this day buried on foreign soil a million miles from their loved ones.

At first read this reminded me of soldiers, born in love to loving parents and wanting hands...to die in service of their country in lonely lands

Very well done in capturing that emotion of feeling so far from home. Many people leave their homeland to seek a better life but end up finishing their days far from the home that they can't return to as that doesn't exist anymore.
