Cheers, my friend, Andre;
-talking about being outside of the box and one sock left behind in the wash, this has to be a most different type of song lyrics I have read but seems to work very well when thinking about Chuck Berry's influence along with Little Richie's. I could definitely see the influence strongly and even helps to reminisce the melody along with your lyrics.
-A very strong hook in your chorus of, "You gotta be out of your mind oleh my dog be left behind." This stuck in my mind very strongly and it is a great lyrical hook.
-The story is very authentic, interesting and plausible, which makes it a very good lyrical writing.
-Good luck in the contest and take care and have a good one Andre and may peace and harmony always be with you.
Alex

Thank you, Alex, for giving my song its first six star review. When I first shared the hook with clients and coworkers, they laughed and sang along, I knew I had a good song on hand and finished it with help of Chuck Berry and Little Richard. I also enjoyed crafting a story that was plausible and entertaining. Thanks for your generous review and for wishing me good luck in the contest and peace and harmony in my life.

Yes, Alex, during church service this morning I saw the hymnal for the first time as I began to understand them. I spoke to the church soloist after service. She explained the melody, alto, tenor, and bass lines and how they together create harmony. I am looking at buying a book on how to read music. Thank you for your encouraging support.

That is intrinsically witty of your acknowledgment and intense initiative and to understanding harmony. I find the basic harmony is one and three and a barbershop quartet is one, three, five, and seven. Achieving it is a whole another winding road to maneuver with or against. I've been in trios where sometimes the person is focusing the third would jump over to the fifth and quaver in that range. It would sound funny.
I'm interested in us developing a communication on this subject of music and I hope to continue with that in the future.
    On that note! Chuckle!
Take care, and peace and harmony my friend.

As well they should sing along if it's really good, and this is really good. Now you have to find someone, is that your choice, to fine tune the lyrics as well as the music and opening those two departments don't end putting a monkeywrench in the works. I've had that happen in an truly helpful to have a medium at that time. Someone that handles negotiations well. Take care and have a good one in peace and harmony with you always.

Alex, here is the video of my first a cappella performance of "Don't Let My Dog Be Left Behind" in front of one hundred teenagers. I will keep tweaking it. Afterwards, I asked a guitarist to explain progression to me. Enjoy:

reply by krys123 on 22-Oct-2017
I couldn't see the video. But it must be great?
Progression also can mean circle of fifths, eighths, etc.. To me, progression, means a few things besides the temple and rhythm of the music. There is also a progressional break? Have a good one.

You were out of your comfort zone you say? Well this is out of mine too I have to admit. As most Fanstorians will be aware I do indeed write lyric from time to time, mainly in the English folk style which is similar to Appalation stuff your side of the pond so with this we are poles apart. Also ouside my comfort zone is the father's philosophy that the dog should be left behind so as to lighten the family's load.

This happens far too frequently in real life and it is sad to see so many abandonned pets. Anyway. I wish you good luck with your concert piece and I like the idea of getting students to write outside their comfort zone. I might adopt that idea in some of my poetry classes.

Yes, Jim, my songwriting teacher happened to be named Jim, also. He's Jim Bruno and just returned from a tour promoting his latest album. The name is amazing with the assignments he gives his students:

Write a social commentary song without sounding preachy.

Write in the style of your favorite singer/songwriter.

Write outside of your comfort zone.

My writing has improved by not writing sad love songs all of the time.

I am glad my song thrilled you. On a deeper side, we acknowledge the problem of people abandoning their pets.

    Thank you for your review.

You got to be out of your mind.
I'll let your dog be left behind. (To let my dog be left behind)

When I first read this I hadn't read your author's notes and didn't realize it was song lyrics.
The trouble with adjudicating song lyrics as you would know is without the tune it's hard to get the beat but once I read in your author's notes about chuck berry's go johnny go it all fell into place

Nice song Andre

Thanks, Dip, I know it is a challenge reviewing without the melody or beat, so I appreciate your review. I may add a spoken word audio track to this post. Still, there are some effects I cannot do on the page. When I perform this, I will aim the mic at the audience so they could chant "go, go, go" and "jump, jump, jump" during that portion of the song. Thanks again.

Great song, Andre.
At least in this case, they left the dog behind accidentally. I hate those people who do it on purpose.
Please, let me know if you add a video or if you upload it to YouTube. I'd love to see it.

Hi Sis Cat, this is a fun story for the contest entry. It is very lyrical and moves at a pace which suits the story. Inspired by the likes of Little Richard, I can certainly hear him in my mind singing this as he hammers the piano keys LOL. Good luck in the contest and also good luck when you perform this yourself. Warm regards Dorothy

Yes, Dorothy, I can imagine Little Richard singing this. I have his voice and Chuck Barry's voice in mind as I rehearse this. Thank you for your review and encouraging words.

I wish you lots of luck on Tuesday, I think this is a lovely song. I am always rooting for happy endings in animal songs, especially after Elvis and his song 'Shep', I cry every time I hear that song. Good luck in the contest, it's a lovely story in a poem entry and a lovely song. Sandra xx

Yes, Sandra, I love happy endings, too. Originally, the song ended without telling the audience or listener if the family ever picked up Buddy. I knew they would bug me if I left the ending and Buddy's future open ended. So I added a story that the family was stuck in traffic and hadn't traveled far when Buddy chased after them and arrived safe in the car.

Thank you for your review and for wishing me luck in my performance and contest.

This is a good story in a poem and I love animal poems so you had won me over even before I had begun to read lol. I enjoyed the lyrics as well. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Yes, dmt1967, when I performed my chorus and two verses to clients and coworkers last week they started laughing out loud. That encouraged me to finish my song. Thank you for your review and for wishing me good luck in the contest.

Well this is unusual, song lyrics poetry. This is new to me but exactly what this is. A good story with a happy ending written with a good rhythm. Good luck.

Thank you, jenintorre, for noting that this is a good story with a happy ending. Originally, I kept singing the chorus without telling if Buddy had a happy ending, but I knew reviewers would bug me, so I added one. Thank you for your review and for wishing me good luck.
