Love it! I'm all for the wicked witch image. Got kind of sick of how Hollywood and the sexual allure took over. Witches were scary because they were mean and ugly. Liked the warning in this. No one is safe. All children are fair game. Good pacing. Great rhythm. Good luck in the contest. Gretchen

    Hi there;

    Halloween is one of my favorite 'holidays.' When I was young, we were still able to go Trick or Treating from house to house, and all we had to worry about was the fear of 'witches who flew through the night,' but in today's world, there are real dangers out there. So many kids have never gone 'Trick or Treating,' and I don't blame parents for protecting their children.

    This was just a fun salute to days gone by,

Original and refreshing piece for the season. Very much welcomed piece that livens up the Halloween mood. I liked the start, which presented a different angle about witches. You explained how they're not after candy. They're after children. Very creepy and original.

I am impressed at your ability to create a poem that meets the standards you mention. It can take a great deal of effort to get the lines to have the right number of syllables and get the rhyme scheme correct. I don't know about all witches being evil though. Remember Glenda the good witch.

It is reported that Witches have a nose for children and can smell one a mile off! He he he, well we are approaching the witching hour, so your poem is on trend! Love Dolly x

Another form I am not familiar with but according to the notes, it is done very well and it makes a great form to use for the contest with the repeating line being the strongest

Patty,

OoooOOooo... I'm not quite sure what to think of your witches.... They LOOK so sweet (..and sultry...?) But you describe them as so conniving and sinful! We must definitely be on the lookout for these crafty beings. *smile* Cool poem, chick!

Is this why parents go trick-r-treating with their kids? To protect them from the witches? Seems legit to me. I can't wait til we get a house and I can hand out candy to all the kids. How fun that would be

"They Come Tonight", is an extremely well-written and deftly descriptive piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. I look forward to seeing your next post.

    Hi there ~patty~, Haloween isn't celebrated as much in Australia as it is over there.

    Best wishes, the Duchess
