Yeah. I've felt that way in my life. This is a good poem and it's open style makes it perfect for a contest with no style restrictions. The writing is excellent and the emotional impact is strong. Great work and good luck.

Thank you, Lucian, for reviewing my poem. I think most everyone has felt lonely at some time or another. My most needy time was when I was divorced at 25 from my high school sweetheart. I am happily married now but sometimes a song will
come on Pandora and it will bring me back to that time. This is what inspired this poem.

I love that emptiness though, it is so very bittersweet. Songs, certain ones, always take me back. A nostalgic journey through the years of lovers lost, and those let go. This is beautiful, blessings....

Jo--
These last couple of poems real get at something we all feel at some time or other. This one is tougher than the last. I hope that you got something here from the encounter, if it happened, that was worth it. There's no real solution for the ache in this poem which you express well.

Thanks
Wabigoon/Jeff

Jeff, thank you so much for your review and comments on my work. The six stars are very kind of you. This poem was inspired by a song I heard on Pandora the other day. "Silver Wings" by Merle Haggard. It reminded me of my first husband (my high school sweetheart) and the lonely time when I was divorced at 25. I was visiting the bars and dance halls after the divorce...a lot of lonely people in those places. I met my present husband in one of those bars (married 43 years now and not lonely anymore). Well, not very often. :O)

Played out night after night, time and time again. Lonely people searching for love. The need for human contact is embedded deep in out souls. In all animals. The need to keep going for the survival of the species. Makes you wonder. Is that what it is all about? LOL Well done Jo!

Nancy, thank you for your review. Yes, you are right, there are a lot of lonely people in this world. Most the time you can see it in their eyes.

Nicely done. You've captured the essence of loneliness. I think we've all walked in those shoes at one point in our lives. Great job. Mary

Liked your poem, although it's quite sad.
I was right there in some club in the early hours of the morning,a little the worse for alcohol, smoke hanging heavily in the air, feeling lonely and feeling the intense desire for the company and affection of a complete stranger.
Thought you crafted this poem well, enjoyed it and well done.

This is very sad and oozes with feeling. A poignant cry for human companionship that is powerfully presented and well written. Indeed true of a song, bringing back memories.

Yes, music has a powerful influence on the human psyche. A song can cheer us up, give us hope, and bring back so many memories. I am glad you liked it.

This is a poem which saddens the heart because almost everyone can relate to its content. I, for one, know this feeling but only at times. It is well written. Content Comment; At one point, I am missing something. It left me questioning whether they hook up ...Promises in the dark...Will you come this way again? My humble opinion is that it needs an explanatory line in between. I am just trying to be honest and hope I didn't offend.

Thank you, Brigitte, for your review and comments. That is the question. Do they hook up? Maybe...I'll leave that up to the reader. A song inspired my memories of a time when I was one of those lonely people looking for warmth (maybe in all the wrong places). I found my present husband of 43 years in a dance hall. :o) So, maybe, some do hook up. :O)

Lovely sharing. I met mine at a bowling alley. We have our 49th anniversary this month. Let's count our blessings.

This poem/story is well done. The impact in each verse combined to elicit a response from an unknown source, yet developed to involve that person without spending words on explanation of him/her. The meter of the piece is very good.

I found this work to be really beautifully presented, creating a strong grip on the reader at the outset. The writing is presented wonderfully with the excellent coloration. The subject is sad and somewhat mournful for the author standing alone in the room, waiting for someone to acknowledge her and bring her some obviously deeply needed joy. I enjoyed this very much and cannot offer anything to improve this fine work in any way. HIS GRAYNESS;; Vance

Thank you, Vance, for reading and commenting on my poem. This is a very personal poem for me. Emotions brought up by a song brought feelings back that I thought had been buried with my ex-husband's death. There was a time in my life after my first husband (high school sweetheart) and I divorced at 25 that I was very lonely and sad. I went to the bars and dance hall's looking for acceptance from strangers. I actually met and married my second husband of 43 years at one of those places. So it ends well. :o)
