I am a Shakespearean Sonnet fan and your contest entry does you proud. I learned to enjoy them on FS. I am not into mythology but I have a son who enjoys it. I have had to learn about it through osmosis. LOL Good luck with the contest.

Thanks, Barbara. I very much appreciate your six stars and kind words. I like the idea of assimilating mythology through osmosis! Best wishes, Tony

Tony,

Your sonnet for the contest is awesome. The presentation is so great--the picture, the color scheme, the choice of style, the message--all work together to create an awesome sonnet.

This sounded great read aloud. It is interesting the way you took the myth from the Norse & wrote it into something so current & true.

[I know there is that thing called meter--but I can only say that it flowed well with great word choices, rhymes, & adherence to style.]

Thanks for sharing. Best wishes in the contest. Jan

Hi T, this is a lovely and reflective sonnet with excellent use of meter and multisyllabic words incorporated. I loved the end rhyming and the volta in the third stanza was highly effective and dramatic. I loved the irony of the myth. We have real vision but no wisdom and ability to reflect on experience when we are young, but as we age, we forget a good deal of our early experiences and often the vision that inspired them. I wish you much luck in the contest.

Nicely done with your Shakespearean Sonnet Tony and an interesting legend you've written it around. Seems like wisdom flew in too late for this guy. Good luck in the contest, very nicely done. You really do the sonnet form extremely well, but alas, no 6's left.
cheers,
valda

Thanks for the educational information on the two ravens, Tony. You always write beautifully crafted sonnets, and this is truly one as well. I think your best talent is your wonderful use of enjambment. Best wishes!
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

What a skillful way to tell how cocky and arrogant we are when young. We don't care who we destroy in our fight to get ahead. The spectre of death makes us feel guilty, then dementia makes us forget it all -the good and the bad.

Thanks, Shari, for the generous gift of six stars. I'm in the middle of reading a new edition of the Norse Mythology which spices the old sagas with a delightful touch of humour. It occurred to me that even if Odin had the benefit of these two messengers at all times, they seldom work for us mere mortals in unison with one another!

What would life be without conflict? LOL

The theme of my next poem, I think!

You read my mind. I was thinking about your taking conflict as a topic. Great minds...

I always like how you share such wonderful information from mythology and lore. I didn't know this story of the two ravens, memory and wisdom. Perhaps one can have too much knowledge to the effect that it hurts others and by the time, one is old enough to be wise, it is too late to remember the harm done by our own ambitions.

I hadn't heard of the two ravens either, until quite recently. I'm in the midst of reading a new edition of the Norse Mythology, and the idea of them rather appealed to me! Many thanks for your review, Helen. Best wishes, Tony

Exceptional, this poem had me just tuned into the flow but my muse called me and demanded a really close look, wisdom misused makes it void in the final hour void, thank YOU

You sure bring some new dimensions to Fanstory with your poetry, Tony. Thank goodness we don't live by Norse mythology, LOL! Nevertheless, it's always fascinating to read deeper into history, Giddy :))

Well, I need me some Huginn and Muninn everyday!! I can never tell a Raven from a blackbird from a crow...BUT...I know a good sonnet when I read one! Very cute ending, Wisdom came, but Memory had flown....loved this!! Blessings....
