this is a very well written story but I am lost as to what Warren was. Was he a boy, a cat, a mouse, I read it over and could not find out.

Warren was a mouse. That's why he was so afraid of the cat.

Excellent story reminded me of the curious cat who went to Heaven, Hell, and beyond and came back. Warren and his thoughts engaged my imagination as if I was reading an illustrated children's book. Yes, I have always been curious about a cat flap, although I have never used one! I had cats, so I thought of them as I read your entertaining story.
