This very nice and so very true. I wish people would understand this and not be a bigot. This is bringing our country down not building it up. It saddens me that people want to just throw away our history. Thanks for sharing. Miss Sally aka angelface2

Well we each see history according to our experience...and the idea of a statue of Robert E, Lee. is repulsive to me....however, it would be a good idea to put it in a museum for the benefit of those that feel the need of such a piece...personally I do not...

You presented your thought quite well, in your quatrain verses...and for that I say thanks for sharing, its always a good thing to hear the thoughts of others.

Sometime I cannot understand is that when a monument is erected, then it has great meaning and why would you want to pull it down later? Food for thought, and I am sorry if I dont fully understand the situation, but your poem certainly has a point of view, love Dolly x

Another fine poem on the subject of what or if anything should be done to Civil War monuments and other monument commemorating local history. You state there are no easy answers and offer the suggestion that instead of bringing down the old monuments we should build the new to go along beside them.

My city of Hercules, CA, an old dynamite factory town used to have a statue of the Greek god Hercules as the city monument, but some prudes got upset over it and dynamited it. Our city has not built a new monument to equal or surpass what we destroyed.

Thank you for sharing your timely poem.

I think that is an excellent idea, and one the hierarchy should take on board. What ever happened in the past, is still our history, you can't just hide it, but you can show how people have changed and what amazing progress has been achieved. Still a way to go, but we'll get there. Well done! :) Sandra x

As with your other poem on the same topic, this presents a constructive way forward out of the somewhat destructive times we seem to be living in at the moment.

Thanks for sharing your poem regarding what you think should be done with Civil War monuments.

I do agree with you that they should not be destroyed. However, I also believe there is a proper place for everything. Perhaps a historical park might be an ideal place for monuments of those whose accomplishments deserve a place in history. JW

Tearing down is not the answer, are we to forget our history so easily? Then we are saying the past sacrifices are for naught. Your piece is very well thought out and a great warning . The second one of its kind I have read today.

Hi Dan. Doesn't seem like anyone is interested in what you speak of however, if people would just simmer down and look at what is happening maybe things can be different. We can't get back history, once it has been destroyed. Another good write. xoxo Kiwi
