Clever. I'm glad you made the reference to Poe so I can understand you knowingly "borrowed' that line. That picture reminds me of the wide variety of creatures in the garden. The paths of the moles are very distinct. Like a machine making a road as your reference to the highway. I like this piece.

ha ha! my cats devour these dirt diggers with vigor and vengeance. Like this: The winding subterranean highway

painstakingly plowed beneath the sod,

Moles! moles!

BOO-tastic!

Hi Bill. Well, I like the poem a lot. Descriptive of this guy and the damage done to lawns. Is that his face? Oh yucky! And look at those gigantic claws. I hope I don't get any moles in my yard. The first two lines are especially well done. Marilyn

He may be the conqueror for now, but if I can just line up his head with my baseball bat. Pow, zoom, bap! Off to the moon his head would go. Yeah I know, I'm a beast. I'm a beast and all that, but a guy gets tired of fighting the losing battle of trying to have a decent lawn while fighting against a mole who lives for the most part below ground and does not have to look at the mess he creates.

Interesting. I've seen pictures of this mole. Very strange looking little guy.

I like the phrase "The winding subterranean highway painstakingly plowed beneath the sod."

That is so clever, Bill. I loved the metaphor. I had a mole in my lawn, his job was to see how many mounds he could create in it. Drove me potty! Between the mole, the worm and the ant, it's a wonder we are safe to walk out! Well done, I enjoyed this one. :) Sandra x
