Hot dang, a bunny hugger. Didn't bunnies nearly eat Australia to the gravel once?
Do not misread me, I support nature and trees and all life, and agree with you
that the nonessential hurting of an animal is a sin. Excellent post.

Well, the ground under my place is pretty much honeycomb thanks to those critters - I keep worrying I'm going to be walking around one day and disappear down a hole, never to be seen again. But hey, my ancestors brought them here. Thanks for reviewing :)

This is a great entry for the contest, Craig. Yes, if we truly love animals, the way that we say we do, then one would think that we wouldn't want them harmed in any way; not to feed us nor to clothe us. I love the contrast emphasized between loving the various animals and using them for our own selfish needs.

Very well written and presented. I enjoyed reading this, Craig. Good luck in the contest. ~ ~ Connie

Hi Craig, this is an awesome tongue planted firmly in cheek write. I thought the flow was great and the juxtaposition of "love and compassion" with greed and selfishness was well done. I wish you the best in the contest. From one vegetarian to another, write on!

Thanks so much for the lovely review, Pam. Very pleased to hear of another FS member who has taken critters off the menu. All the best, Craig

You are most welcome. Yes, I try not to eat any living creature with a central nervous system. Can't shake the scientist and philosopher in me.

Hello there stranger. Nice to see you back. I do hope this means your muse has unpacked the bags, done the laundry and hung the stuff back up in the closet to stay. Your gently written poem was cleverly disguised at the start and soon became quite riveting in its message. So, I was both impressed and dismayed by your piece. I love animals but do believe in the food chain. I do draw the line at bunny eyes and all manner of animal torture, regardless of the 'need' for it. But, there are several humans I can think of who should be used in their stead. A lot to ponder this morning. - Wendy

Thank you for the lovely welcome, Wendy. I'm still struggling with a significant lack of inspiration, but I was cajoled into submitting something anyway. I can certainly agree that I wouldn't be quite so upset if the experiment subjects were certain humans in particular. Your comments are very much appreciated. Craig

Well-penned satire such as this is a very good way of getting people to sit up and pay attention. What double standards we have when it comes to compassion, love and kindness! Being cute is a definite advantage in this world except, it seems from your poem, in the case of rabbits. However, as all Australians know, they are just vermin! I enjoyed this poem so much that I am showering it with stars!

This speaks poet has love, compassion and kindness for animals as he speaks, shares his feelings and expresses his emotions with the animals and tries to made them feel his sentiments; I liked.

Well you have to feed the poor something, don't you? Kidding, Craig. I'm a vegetarian too, vegan was too hard, because I am particularly fond of cheese even though I cannot stand, stomach milk of any kind. It's a hangover from childhood. Water is the preferred drink.

Great job, excellent message and good to see you posting again.

Gloria

I'm right there with you Gloria. And just like you, I'm a cheese addict, although I don't drink milk meant for baby cows, goats, sheep or anything else. I want to cut out the cheese, but my attempts so far at nut based cheesemaking have been abysmal failures. One day I will find a recipe that works, and my conscience will be clear :)

Thanks for the lovely review, and the delightful gift of six shiny stars.

What a twist at the end. Taking us through all this I thought the writer was a vegetarian but then it went somewhere else and I had to laugh. Excellent free verse on the contest entry

This is a very interesting poem you have penned for the love, compassion and kindness contest. You used very good descriptive wording and the art work was so adorable. You do have a lot of animals. We have a lot of cats here. Best wishes in the contest. Teri

A very well-written poem of love with selfish reasons. As long as the lamb, the calf, the bunny, and humans have a purpose and can serve and provide in our needs, we love them and do our part to keep them serving us.
