I can't believe it. We're graced with another of your great stories. It's always good to see what you've written for us. I just wish you would write more. Don't make us wait so long between stories. This one is much needed and not often told.

Thank you so much, Thomas Bowling, my friend, for taking time to read my story. My true enjoyment comes from regularly reading the posts of yours and others. Every now and then, something comes to mind and I write. Like when I think about all the lonely and forgotten people in this world, young and old. If only they had one person to love or care about them. Now I just hope I haven't blown my gruff, hard-ass image. LOL! I understand why it was best received and why it won the contest, it's a great feel good story packed full of emotions. The little boy's story sure pulls at your heartstrings. The little squabble between Helen and George was comical but very believable. Great job and congratulations.

So happy to see that you won this contest. So well deserved. You're so right. I wish you'll find someone to love you, if you haven't yet. My love has become my art, and it's okay.
This is a heartbreaking story. No child should go through this, but there's always a bright side. It made you who you are today. You had your grandmother, and probably you loved her as if she were your mother. I did with mine. I have no connection, bond whatsoever with my mother. And my children's father not only divorced me, he also divorced his children, if you get what I mean. I was the one breaking up and asking for the divorce, though. Don't regret it, but I never expected that he would never call his children again, not even on birthdays or Christmas. Particularly my youngest child resents him and says he's dead.
Thank you for sharing this story with such important message.

Thank you so much for taking time to read my story. Sadly, there are so many forgotten people, young and old. I wish I could wash away all the hurt and pain from these children whose parent or parents have deserted or forgotten they need love and nurturing. Otherwise, other facets their personalities can lurch out in desperation to bite those who aren't guilty for their pent-up anger. A quadruple-edged sword. They don't send out notifications for contest entries. There are a few who still find out about these posts, but I have no idea how. Wish I did. Great story in a child's experience and eyes. Great dialogue structure as you develop the characters in the story. The love of a child, of relatives, friends is truly a gift. The title added, to direct readers to imagine the broken promise, which appears to be a child waiting patiently to see his dad. Wish you all the best.

The story is wonderful. It reminds me, though, of decades ago, perhaps the 1950's. I'm sure it happens now, but it isn't depicted in any movies or TV that I've seen lately. We need to see that kind of thing as a role model of sorts these days. We move so fast in the twenty-first century, we forget to care about other people like neighbors. But couples still fight and parents still don't visit. Thank goodness for grandmas.
