Ric, a heartbreaking read that got to my heart strings from the opening scene. There are so many grandparents raising grand children these days, it makes one wonder where we went wrong as a society.
The animosity between Helen and her husband, yet the Vince and live she had for this neighbor boy reveals the complexity of the human soul.

Ric, a heartbreaking read that got to my heart strings from the opening scene. There are so many grandparents raising grand children these days, it makes one wonder where we went wrong as a society.
The animosity between Helen and her husband, yet the Vince and live she had for this neighbor boy reveals the complexity of the human soul.

(*) this is an extra star because I'm out of sixes. This story is written beautifully in a clever balance of emotion. First we have the husband speaking so rudely and offensively to his wife, with her giving back as good as she got. (serves him right the pratt) Then the dialogue between the boy and the neighbour. So courteous and civil. The boy's realization that he has been left in the lurch ,again, is so sad, but his wise understanding of his true blessing is a lift at the end of the story. Well done. Your story left a deep hole in my heart. I, too, have known too many who have been left with broken promises that have left them feeling insecure, angry, heartbroken and numb into their adult years. Your story resonates with many I am sure. The little boy in the image did not ask to be born. I wonder if his parents were left with broken promises as well as children or perhaps the parents have suffered from addiction or are just plain selfish. So sad.

Your story left a deep hole in my heart. I, too, have known too many who have been left with broken promises that have left them feeling insecure, angry, heartbroken and numb into their adult years. Your story resonates with many I am sure. The little boy in the image did not ask to be born. I wonder if his parents were left with broken promises as well as children or perhaps the parents have suffered from addiction or are just plain selfish. So sad.

Just think, it wasn't really that long ago (about three years) when that old guy who called himself the writing guru or something close had me ready to quit and give up. Then, you convinced me he was full of crap and that I had some potential. Well, I'm very aware that I still have a long way to go, but the two threes I've received on this piece have never made me think the first time about giving up. LOL!
