Happy Birthday a bit late Connie. You did a great job with your poem. The repeated line fits in nicely in all verses. Good job on the rhymes, too. I enjoyed reading your poem. As they say, age is only a number. You are as young as you feel. Jan

Connie! Congratulations on reaching seventy years and still looking like you've barely touched fifty! You are one of those amazing ageless beauties! I loved your poem, so cleverly told in the Quatern form, with each repeated line fitting in its place without a hitch. Your meter is perfect and the rhymes too. It is just... well, the message somehow doesn't fit with the image in my head of this gorgeous young lady I know. But... that's no fault in the poem. You've written it with humor and honesty and I enjoyed the form, the rhymes, the smile it brings. Happy Birthday. When might we celebrate?

Thank you, Adonna, for your wonderful review and exceptional rating. And thank you, by the way, for commenting that I look like I've "barely touched fifty." Yeah, right! You are too sweet. I always read any poems I write (which aren't many these days) to my husband before I post them. He always enjoys the Quatern form and had asked if I'd write one with those "repeating lines," as he calls them. It wasn't hard writing about turning seventy.
I hope you are doing well.
    Hugs,
    Connie

A well written Quatern Connie! Congratulations! That's still young. Take it from an elder. LOL I wonder if we ever feel old. It seems the body fails, but not the spirit. I only worry about my mind. My granddaughter and son and great grandchildren have been doing a lot of yard work and fixing up lately and I have been dying to get out there with them but that is not to be. I can, however, enjoy the results. Have many more birthdays Connie. God Bless you. Nancy

Thank you, Nancy, for your wonderful review and exceptional rating. It sounds like many of the people on this site have age-related ailments that keep them from being too physically active; but, like you, they still continue to write and keep their minds active.
Sounds like you have a wonderful family who surround you with love by helping you around your home.
My very best to you, as always.

Happy 70th birthday, Connie. I'm 76. I loved reading your Quatern. Such a nice form, reminding me again that I must try one myself. Each day we have is a gift to enjoy. Some people can't or don't. Many more happy birthdays. Marilyn

Thank you, Marilyn, for your thoughtful and encouraging review. Yes, you should try writing a Quatern some time. They are actually fun to write.
    My best to you.

Oh, what's in a number? Congratulations on this date. Seventy is grand! Thank you for sharing this with us, love your rhyme, meter and flow. A very upbeat, very uplifting poem. I like the subtle humor here too.

Of obligations, we are free.
We walk, take yoga, do it all!
I'm seventy. How can that be?
Stay young at heart. Yes, that's my call.

Forget about my achy knees
or that I often have to pee.
My ailments only serve to tease.
I'm seventy. How can that be?

I'm with you. . . . .I'm 76, how can it be???
I'd say we are the "new" 70's and are still full of life and have much life to give.

In the second stanza on the last line, I think you could cut the word "some" and the line flows better, for me anyway. :) Enjoy your new life of writing and doing whatever you want. Me too.

Thanks so much for your review. You mentioned dropping the word "some" from the last line in the second stanza. If I were to do that, the line would have only seven syllables, and the Quatern form contains eight-syllable lines.
    Thanks again.

There, there now, owning up to the big 70 wasn't all that painful now was it?
I've moved well into my 70s now and am resigned to the fact that Deo Volente
(God willing) I'll have to face the Seven turning to Eight in the next few years.
After that who knows? I'll wait and see. Just as long as my brain continues to work I'm content with my lot in life. Your poem is charming and though tinged with a hint of regret is accurate in its summation of the years' encroachment throughout our lives. All in all a well written piece. cheers Cass

Welcome to the Seventh Decade? Yes, as you pointed out time has flown by. Take my word for it: It doesn't slow down. A good format to use--the Quatern--to make sure your message (the refrain) is heard loud and clear.
