Hahaha! Dog days, indeed! Cute haiku and even cuter picture. Flows well and gave me a smile. I don't see anything that needs to be corrected. Excellent poem for the prompt. Good luck in the contest!

Thank you, Kathleen, for your review of my cute haiku and for wishing me luck in the contest. On vacation in Sayulita, Mexico, my niece, an art teacher, spent twenty minutes giving my dog Mina here tummy rubs in order to coax her to remain in that position for the shot.

LOL, your niece is a talented dog masseuse. :-D

Your play on words is well done. The chihuahua in he photo looks very comfortable soaking up a he son. The dog days of summer take on a new meaning. I don't know much about haiku, but this one looks perfect to me. Best of luck in the summer poem contest.

Hahaha...that punch line you've used is pretty doggone good, lol. That and that alone is probably enough to carry this witty canine creation to the winner's circle.
My best friend is a mean, ornery sixteen-year-old Chihuahua named Gidget.

You are right, Dean. The punchline carried my witty canine creation to third place in the Summer Poetry Contest. On vacation in Sayulita, Mexico, my niece, an art teacher, spent twenty minutes giving my dog Mina tummy rubs to coax her to hold that position for the shot. Thank you for your review and say hi to Gidget for us. Hey, why isn't Gidget on the beach doing this shot?
reply by Dean Kuch on 24-Jul-2017
Well, quite frankly Gidget's not making shots like Mina's because I'm on disability and too broke to pay attention, Andre, LOL.
You're very welcome. I voted for you for what it's worth.

We have a lot to learn from dogs and too, cats, as they take life a bit different then we see it, and in a more relaxed manner, like your poem expresses to us and they just do what comes natural, it does seem.

Best Wishes for your entry...C.

This is adorable. Your chihuahua does the same thing my big dog does. She stretches out on her back, feet in the air, belly up for a tummy rub. This entry is amusing and fun. Marilyn

Oh man, I look at that photo and thing 'hot dog'. Your different interpretation of dog days make this haiku unique and clever. Alliteration of s and d sounds enhances the poem.

This is really original and a great haiku. Your poem and photograph illustrates summer so well. I can actually feel the heat and the bliss of the Chihuahua. Many animals, including my cats, lie like that in the sun. Sue

We have 2 chihuahuas and I didn't even need the cute/funny picture to 'see' them belly up enjoying the summer sun.
You have a sense of humor and the poem is creative and well expressed!

how cute. If my chi wasn't so fat, I doubt he could stay on his back.
Your niece knows her photography. Of course, she's an art teacher!
