This senryu, His Knees Ache, captures the endurance needed to push the body past what you think it can do to the race's end proving what you now know you can do. Congrats!

Yes, Bill, the race this year was harder for me because my knees and feet were not in the best of condition. Unbeknownst to me at the time, my feet suffered from neuroma--ball of foot pain--from the repetitive stress of walking five miles a day. Despite limping for miles, I crossed the finish line near last an hour later, and got help from my doctor and physical therapist.

    Thank you for your review.

Oooooh, that is a painful poem! I watch these marathons and wonder why the runners put themselves through such pain. When I see their faces as they finish the race so filled with pride and joy, I realise, it's the challenge and the actual doing it that spurs them on. I admire you all! Very well done and big congratulations!! :) Sandra xxx

Long distance running is such a grueling endeavor. I commend you for being involved. It takes a lot of grit to fight through that proverbial "wall." Hopefully the stress in your lower extremities gets resolved.

Your piece provides an agonizing image of 'just making it through' - Cheers!

Oh, thank you, Hansel, for your encouraging review. This week my doctor and physical therapist diagnosed me with neuroma--ball of foot pain--and prescribed calve stretches and foot massages. I am now running a light jog. Thanks.

A highly descriptive and vivid run or should I say, limp LOL to the finish...complete with a prayer to Our Father along the way.

I'm sure he was shining down on you but I'd say you had the majority of the sway on this one LOL

Well done. You are VERY fit in spite of the way you pulled up after. I'm sure that would test the finest of athletes.

Well written. I was cheering you on from the sidelines in your slow mo joint aching faith testing collapse to the end!

Cheers P

Oh, thank you, P, for your encouraging review. The funniest moment for me was when I limped toward the finish line an hour later and found that the following race for kids was now in progress. I crossed the finish line outraced by kids one-tenth my age as proud parents photographed them and this limping man getting in their shots. Thanks.

Wow, what a feat. Congratulations on your achievement, but oh, I can imagine how your knees must ache! Great artistic presentation, and thank you for your contribution to the site's haiku book.

Wow. I use to run way back in the day but never this far. I can imagine how your knees were feeling. Ouch. Good for you. At least you made it across, even if it was limping. This is a great little senryu, SC. It brought back some old memories. Have a great day. Keep up the good work.

DS

Oh, I think we all know this pain too well. Congratulations for jogging again. Lovely little Haiku too, it gave me an insight to your feelings when coming across the finish line.

A nice photo that complements your tiny poem very well. This is a true Senryu with you in it. Limping over the finish line is not so nice. I wish you all the best.
