This is such a sad poem. I can't imagine how hard it is for a son to lose his father. Your poem pays fair tribute to these kids.
Understanding death is a difficult thing for young kids, but eventually, they get it.
Daddy's not coming home.

Hi Nicole; it is awful how many children grow up without a parent due to war,
Sorry for this being a bit late - I haven't been feeling well,

Hi Heidi; thank you so much for the lovely review. I like participating in the 'Picture This' prompts. It is always interesting to see how many different thoughts come from the same picture,

Hello, my friend,
A very sad poem about a little girl and her military dad who died in the war. The rhyme scheme is done effectively and the presentation is appropriate for the poem. Good job

Excellent ABAB though very sad but that is the norm any more, isn't it?
Nicely done for the contest, the last line was a little blurred for me because of the color combination

Nice tribute to the untold brave numbers of men and women who have sacrificed so much--everything, in fact--for the good of all.
If anyone thinks the military life is easy, I would encourage them to try it sometime.
Nicely done, Patty.
Kudos...

Hi Dean; thank you for reading and reviewing. The picture of the lone little girl on the dock just brought up the dozens of kids I've met who never got to see Dad again,

How bittersweet. It makes me want to cry. Your tale is moving. A sad reminder of the tragedy of war. And it's all so senseless. We would bring all of our soldiers home.

A very well-written poem and interpretation of the 'picture this' challenge. The little girl fishing all alone, like she does many times before with her Daddy, now he's gone and she will always remember him when she goes fishing.
