Ah, Patty. Great rhymes and heart tug on the fishing line. Those kids who will never see their parent again often have so much pain and anger. I think your closing line is filled with both and truly reflects the situation. Amazing how we all come to variations on a theme when we look at these photos. - Wendy

This is a heartfelt and emotional poem. Wonderful memories of fishing with daddy, and then losing him to the war. A sad reality for so many veterans families.

Yes, it must be so devastating for these children who lost parents during their military service. How does one explain that to them? I like your way of focusing on a favorite activity which will be missed by a young one.

When will they stop sending daddies to get killed? It's so sad to think of all the kids growing up without them. If I were in charge I'd keep the dads at home and not let them fight unless someone attacked us. When has getting involved in other people's wars ever worked?

Awww, so sad. We never know when 'goodbye' is forever. This is a wonderful poem for this picture. On his grave, a pile of rocks, and a little girl waiting....blessings...

The lovely photograph pulls the reader immediately into the emotion of the story which is very strong and extremely well presented in rhyme meter, and verse. The story is a sad one of course and the overall writing is done very well indeed and I cannot suggest anything to improve this work in any way. Many thanks to the author for a touching read'! Such a sad narrative Patty, the theme that a lot of people may forget in the light of such a precious image. This little girl reminds me of my granddaughter who's about the same age, so precious. But poignantly written in articulate language, so well written in no fixed meter, and abab rhyming, well done, blessings, Roy
