This is a very powerful work that details vividly the cost of seeking to exempt revenge. There will probably always be a calming voice trying to offer up a more sensible alternative view to all or nothing warfare. As in the poem, this voice is often shouted down, ridiculed or worse, killed. Of course the cost on those exacting revenge is many time beyond accurate calculation, but it is never light. The United States exacted retribution on Japan at a cost that remains one of the deadliest acts of any war yet. Very good poem.

I'm out of 6s, Tony, this poem certainly deserves one. I love mythology, the stories stay with me, and are wonderful to read. You've told a wondrous story in a poem here, and I enjoyed every line. Well done, my friend. :) Sandra x

FANTASTIC!!!!! I loved reading every last word. It takes me 80,000 word to tell a story and you told it one poem. I could see the events and emotion happening right before my very eyes. Wonderful job!!1

So very many thanks, Barbara, for this wonderful review and for the six stars. I haven't the tenacity to run to 80,000 words! LOL

I thought the musical elements, and the imagery, of this poem terrific. This poem was really nicely put together. the meter and the alliterations combined to create this softly woven flow, and the pastoral images of landscapes and animals contrasted with the violence of the joust. The casket contrasted with the sky, a sense of death giving way to resurrection and the escape of the spirit. I loved this opening "Wild fly their feathered tails as stallions stamp" I thought that was brilliant. It sort of reminds me of Keats' St, Agnes Eve. great job. estory

Lovely comments and much valued award of six stars. The rhyme scheme I used is the one that Keats used for St Agnes Eve, so I was delighted that you saw the connection.

A very well-written ode. Good imagery right through and the prescribec rhyming scheme was followed with excellent rhyme. A great Greek mythology story line.
