Some of us trust in prayer. Many others sort of believe in prayer when it suits the situation and they don't have an alternative. Me, I believe in prayer wholeheartedly, and my pistol enhances my trust. :-) Silly ol' me.

I think of John Donne's Holy Sonnets, and how he found the courage to confront the inevitability of death, We must not panic, and must not entertain illusions, but find strength.

Also, bear in mind that meditative, contemplative prayer develops a strength of character and mental discipline.

Hey Dean; thank you for sharing your haiku about how prayer can defeat death. I'm sure there will be those that doubt, but I'm thinking you are talking of the death of the soul. Through prayer, the soul can live forever.

Good morning, Dean

I'm still amazed at the pictures you find to fit the poetry and prose you post. Pray is a comfort for most.

Take care and stay safe,

Ray

This haiku, The Power of Prayer, uses eighteen syllables to suggest that we can limit Death's powers in some way. This is a nice thought and would usually pay off in our ability to accept the eventuality in pace with its definite arrival. Nice poem.

Well done Dean, with multifaceted meaning in your kigo and satori. Death being defeated by God's promise of eternal life with him if you only believe, and praying indicates belief, therefore death is defeated by prayer. Or, prayer is heard and answered with recovery, which fosters belief. And then there are always the prayers for the dead where they live on in our memories . . . and the wheels on the bus go round and round. Love the P,F and D alliteration. So much going on in so few sentences. - Wendy

Splendid write of prefect form
The three lines hit the core
Prayer is stronger giving life
Even when death does try to strike

Thanks so much for the directions in photo shop and to publish haiku in the collection. To post in the book does it have to follow the fanstory rule that all posting are new or can it be something already posted? And is the virtual
meeting happening every Tues as of when? I like the form that you have demonstrated here. My one posted haiku is in a different form

The meetings are on hiatus until the fall, frierajac. But anyone can drop into the TeamSpeak Haiku Club chatroom at anytime just to talk haiku or shoot the breeze.
As far as posts for the book go; yes, they must be new haiku poems never before posted on FanStory.
I'm very happy I could be of some assistance.
    Take care. :)
