Through your admirable writing it's quite understandable that in the prevailing circumstances of her life, exactly what must have gone through Jenny's mind and how she must have pulled up the strength, specially emotionally, to deal with it all without actually panicking. Great write up; very touching indeed.

This story is incredibly moving and you've told it very well.
This happens so often... and of course it's good for the adoptive parents, but the biological mother must suffer immensely.
Thanks for sharing.

A very well written and gripping account. Although there were several aspects of the story that were sad, this part really bothered me: "they [the hospital staff] had little regard for women who gave their babies away and they didn't even try to mask their feelings." Its terrible that your friend had to feel judged for giving up her baby, when the decision was no one elses business but her hers anyway. Hospital staff, more than anyone should understand that not all women are physically, emotionally or financially equipped to keep their children and choosing to give their babies up for adoption is the right and selfless choice. I don't know if it was the hospital, the time period in which the story took place, or just the unfortunate experience of your friend but the staff's reaction was way out of line.

Hi; when my friend relayed the story, it really bothered me when she told me things about the staff and how they treated her - so I wanted to be sure to make it part of the tale.

I appreciate your review and kind words of encouragement - (this happened in the early 1980s)

This story reminded me of an incidence where I had to take my roommate to the hospital after her water broke. The author had done justice and described the process of birth in modern hospitals very well.

Great story.
Well-written.
The dialogue is good.
--With my second child, my water broke on the table, just as they were prepping me for my c-section. Out of my three children, that's the only one that did break on it's on.
Great artwork. The image shown supports the topic discussed.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Good luck with your future writing.

A brilliant story, my friend! I felt the mother's feelings throughout this captivating story. You set the stage, described the surroundings, and made the story come to life. I figured it wasn't autobiographical, but, like you said, the tale of someone else. Thank you for giving us a view into someone else's pain/experience.

Great job,
Rhonda

When her water broke, she was lying on the couch watching TV. Oops, somebody call a medic! Wow! Ate a whole pizza? Gee-- Whitaker! she waddled to the bedroom.
Like a duck? Her first thought was to call him, ?? I still get to be in the delivery room, right?" trust BOO - you do not want to be here - babies look like aliens with all that mucus slime on them that I was not warned about. Awe, really was a shell shocker. Bummer, The hospital check-in was marred by the attitude of the staff when they heard and understood that the baby was being put up for adoption. Where is the father? Oh, shot that blocks pain? epidural, sad ending... she did not want to change her mind if she held the boy. "No," Jenny smiled through her tears, "give him to his mother."
Life goes on...
BOO-tastic!

That's so sad. Sometimes you have to do what is best for the baby no matter what that is. I also have a friend who went through something similar. It was the hardest thing she ever had to do, but she knows it was the right thing.

Jenny smiled back at the weeping woman. Her thanks would be in no longer carrying this burden alone. She wasn't going to be pregnant in just a few more minutes. She would no longer be 'that pregnant girl." No one would be judging her at work anymore. There wouldn't be pointing and snickering behind her back. It was almost over.
It took only thirty minutes of pushing, and the baby made its way into the world. Both Rita and Jenny held their breath as the baby's sex was revealed. Rita was so pleased to have a baby boy, and Jenny was merely relieved it wasn't a girl. She didn't think she could hand over a daughter to someone else.
After the nurses cleaned the little boy, Nell brought the wrapped bundle over to the bed. "Do you want to hold him?" she asked Jenny.
"No," Jenny smiled through her tears, "give him to his mother."
Wonderful, deeply touching and with an AMAZING twist. Made me a little tearful too. I loved this write friend, much love Meia x

Oh, this is such a sad story.
Your writing was clear and well-described.
I could not imagine carrying a child and then giving it away, but it is better than having an abortion.
Hopefully, this child went to a loving home, and by the sounds of things, it did.
