Thank you so much for posting this explanation as I had tried the form previously
and it didn't go so well. I like your interpretation although I believe that the predominant
theme is romantic love. The basic katauta is a question, or its answer.
A pair of katautas is a mondo:" Am I in love?" " Birds are flying." is an intuitive answer.

Heartfelt and soulful dialogue in an exchange of love and devotion, if only this were true of today's society, but I suppose texts have take over the traditional love letter, a delightful read, love Dolly x

Well, I am not much of a romantic but this becomes a lovely flowing conversation that is quite beautiful between the uncertain lover and his true love. Well done.

Good afternoon, Patty

I've never read or heard about Japanese katauta poetry. I liked the opposite povs, how one counters negative doubt with positive emotions. Enjoyed. Out of sixes.

Take care and stay safe,

Ray

Hi Ray; thank you so much for reading this poem that was written as a fun piece of 'dialogue within a poetic form.' I appreciate the virtual six,

This Katsura does all the things you said it should. It also takes the standpoint that some people can't understand how they can be loved by anyone. Such is love. Right?

There are so many forms of Japanese short poetry they sometimes seems as plentiful as the stars in the universe. Senryu, haiku, sedoka, tanka, tanka prose, katauta, jisei (or death poems)...and the list goes on and on...
I liked how you told this from both perspectives.
How wonderful would it be to have such a love in your life?
Or, perhaps you already do.
Well done, Patty.
~Dean

Hi Dean; thank you so much for the lovely review. I am lucky - and this is somewhat biographical, as in the first few years of our marriage, I honestly couldn't believe that someone could love me so much,

Loved the piece Patty. The back-and-forth dialogue is a refreshing concept. Likewise, the polarizing mindsets truly bring the heart of the reader into the work. You end up feeling for both characters, appreciating their relatability (I think we've ALL been on either side of this conversation).

Nicely done - Cheers!

The katauta - I've never heard of this style before..
It's intersting, works really well
A love poem with a difference.

Well-penned, Patty.

Blessings,
Margaret

Hi Margaret; thank you so much for reading and reviewing. This was a fun little write, and I found the directions for this form in someone's author's notes awhile back.

Have just come on line after lunch - have been seeing our diningroom suite and conservatory whicker chairs go to charity - makes the place look a little bare in some rooms, but they are far to big for where we are going. We've had to buy smaller. Preparing to move is quite exhausting. M

Oh no. Moving is such a hard thing to do. You will be in my prayers as you go on this journey. But just think, there will be less to clean!

Where we are going - a 2-bed retirment apartment is so luxurious, and we'll have a cleaner come in once a week - (part of the maintenance charges together with the gardens, laundry room - a roof garden terrace and the general upkeep of the building and grounds) - oh, and a resturant open 365 days a year for those who don't want to cook (I love to cook myself, but I dare say we'll use it from time to time). Can't wait to go.

They have a community like that right across the street from the apartments we are currently living in. I would love to move to something like that when the time comes, but I don't think that's in the cards for us - unless we win the lottery,

I have to admit the maintenance is high - but we figure we've worked hard running a business for 38 years and had to do without a lot of things, but now our pensions are paying off, we might as well enjoy a few luxuries. smile.

I'm really happy for you. We are rewarding ourselves with a cruise next year for our 35th anniversary. We're hoping for it to be a cruise of the Mediterranian, but I hate to take that much out of savings.

You go - our eldest son took his wife and they are saving to go again. They had the time of their life.

Patty,
This is a great presentation. While I am not familiar with the style, your notes helped me see how it is done.

I like the way you used 2 colors & indented the lines. This reads well & fits the rules. It seems this is a conversation where she is asking for reassurance from her special one. This seems like it could & probably has happened to others. Good job & thanks for sharing. Jan
