Ack! That was a completely unexpected ending! Well, you did give clues. The killer got double the money and got the job done for both of them? You did a good job and showing us the problems with the couple but a death sentence seems rather extreme. I think camping at the Embassy Suites would have had a happier ending. Lol.
One suggestion since you mentioned the French accent, is the replace, "my darling" which I always imagine with a Russian accent, with "ma cherie" which would make it more French.
