This is a great poem. I loved the stately meter, the rhythm of it, the intricate rhyme scheme, the alliterations, it all added up to plenty of music to the ear. nice job contrasting the riches of this life with the inevitability of death, the starkness of it. I think the rich, almost baroque language really set the scene for the rich man in his ornamented house. estory

I love the flow of this format, and your tale of Recompense was excellent. Now that I just wrote my last two Sonnets and will post them in the next couple days, I'll have to try one of these. Well done!

A very well-written Chant Royal poem. Our while life is a struggle of survival. Sometimes we have more enemies than friends. We have to take our stand and never telling lies to reach our goal.

This flows oh so smoothly Tony. It has an Ozymandias tone matched up with Breaking Bad in timeless land.

Excellent imagery and deft use of many poetic devices making this poem a literary masterpiece.

Very well done my friend.

This seems like a period piece of the Victorian Age to me. I get an image of
a man standing over working children with a whip. One who has worldly ambitions.
There are modern example of the form using consonance instead of true rhyme.

When it is ones time to pay the pied piper sometimes it is not a pleasant sight to be viewed. All is not prim and proper and suffers the ending alone alone six feet under give orvtake

Hi Tony. Oh this is so good and excellent rhyme and meter and your intensity of the story was great and although you did not state who this was about it left it up to ones imagination and this although was so Old in its language could be very relevant in todays political world i really enjoyed this compostion and your authors notes helped explain the requirements for this style I love that no rhyming word is used twice ( I always try to do this with my poetry I never use the same rhyme word ) The refrain was so excellent A most prudent warning that an arrogance of aelf importance will end badly LOL A most well worth read. A bookcase for me Cheers Christine

Superb construction, Tony! Wonder why these French forms love repeated lines so much. The meter is a strong marching rhythm which goes so well with the theme. I kept thinking, does the subject like to tweet? Or does he meddle in other countries' politics through hacking? But it could be Napoleon or even anyone at any time in their lives when ruled by pride.

Very many thanks for this lovely review, Helen, and for the six stars. Much appreciated! Several people found that the poem related to a modern political figure, though I didn't have anyone particular in mind when I wrote it. Best wishes, Tony
