Good advice in both your poem and author's notes Marilyn if anyone is listening. Get a grip - Zip the lip - well said. The old saying words can never hurt, I don't think that is true, words do a lot of harm and are not always easily forgotten.
cheers,
valda

Very well said, my friend. I hadn't heard about that incident. A time-out sounds like a good idea. People need to cool off and start using some common sense~Debbie

Hi Debbie. Thank you for your review. The hysteria over Trump's election is off the charts. It has to start with Congress setting the tone for the entire country. If they can't get along, how do they expect citizens to get along. They themselves fan the flames. We must unite and try to get something done for the good of all of us. Marilyn

This is insightful and so true. Excellent suggestion that the congressmen blur the line between parties and play together on the field--and off. A well written verse with catchy rhymes and wisdom.

Hi debi. Thank you for your review. Congress has to show leadership, that they can get along and be civil. They rile everyone up with their backbiting and hatred. Then they are shocked when everyone else is fighting. Why should they expect citizens to behave any better than they do?

Marilyn, This is a very well written poem you have penned with so much truth. It is so sad that people open their mouth before thinking of the consequences. Very good wording and imagery. Blessings, Teri

What a good poem Marilyn, very well written. I saw on the news over here all about this baseball game, but did not hear about the shooting. I think the world's gone crazy. We are having problems over here, but I expect you have heard all about it on your news. Four serious incidents in the three months - it really is awful, and politics.............. well, what can it say???? I don't know how, or when, it will end over here. Regards Dorothy x

Hi Dorothy. The world is going crazy. Citizens have to unite instead of tearing each other apart. I believe civility has to start with politicians themselves who egg all of us on to fight with each other. It's got to stop. Thank you for your supportive review. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn; this was just the saddest news to hear that morning. I was getting ready to catch my flight in Norfolk when the report came over the radio. I couldn't believe that yet another tragedy happened. When will this chaos end?

Hi Patty. Thank you for your review. The chaos will either end or escalate. The politicians are guilty of churning the pot and egging citizens on. But they are playing with fire. It may suit their purpose, but as they saw this week all their hateful rhetoric puts everyone in danger, including themselves. Congress has to set the tone. They claim they are all friends in Congress--well, if they are, they have to show it and get something done. Otherwise there will be total anarchy. Marilyn

Hi Dolly. As you know I'm ardent about everybody getting along. Congress is to blame, too. They have to show civility themselves because they are fanning the flame. Then they wonder why the citizens are so ticked off. Thank you for your review. Marilyn

A timely poem, perfect for this ridiculous period in our lives. It contains great ideas expressed in a clever way.
Your suggestion to not pit political parties against each another is an excellent one.

Hi Marv. The charity baseball game will go on tonight as scheduled. I think that is a big mistake. I think they should postpone it until they change the rules. It should not be Dems v Repubs but bipartisan teams. Let Congress prove that THEY can get along by all playing together on mixed teams. They should set the example for the rest of the country for unity. Thank you for your review which is much appreciated. Marilyn

What an awful incident that you have so eloquently written about Marilyn, we here about these random shootings where unstable people shoot at innocent folk all the time in America, unsure what the answer would be. I went to the states a few years ago and was astounded how easy it was to buy a gun. Politicians should unite to try and bring some unity...definitely.

Hi Mitchell. Thank you for your review and comments. I am FOR legal and appropriate gun ownership. The problem is primarily with illegal weaponry, which is always available for those who wish to do harm to others. The lowest crime rate occurs in those states where most people have license to carry. The highest crime rate is in the states which are gun-free zones/states. Why? Because bad guys know that people in gun-free zones/states are unprotected and they can do whatever they wish without fear of being challenged.

In my opinion, Congress is at fault for not setting a good example for citizens. They can't even get along with each other, how the heck do they expect rank and file citizens to get along any better? Congress has to set the tone for civility. So far they are doing a very poor job of it. Since the shooting of Rep. Scalise yesterday, they are all sweetness and light with each other. Give them another week and they'll be at each others throats again. Short memory for civility and getting the work of the people done. I'm a huge proponent of term limits for politicians. Our founding fathers never intended these people riding the gravy train to be in office for 30-40 years. Politicians would do a better job if they knew they had only two terms in office and then had to get out. Sooner or later we will all have to come together or we will all sink together. Marilyn
