The second time around, especially after the loss of a loved one, must a very difficult life-choice to make. I'm sure this is compounded when both partners are in the same situation.

You made this point very well in this fine poem.

Very nice posting.

How true it is that hearts need time to mend after devastating loss, and she is wise to acknowledge that she needs time before opening up her heart again. This is both sad and romantic at the same time. Great choice of artwork which complements your work. Nicely done, and very much enjoyed.

Ah, yes....smart woman, she knows she needs time, and another love, on top of loss, is too soon. This is lovely, and quite touching, blessings....

This speaks lover promises lover that she will also love him like he does, if not today but one day, considering anything can happen any day and change is compulsory, still; I liked.

A poignant piece of writing, sad but filled with
hope for future love.
I like the alternating speakers in each stanza.

Hauntingly beautiful poem, Teresa. Loved the lines and the rhythm flowed. This sounds like the makings of a song. Maybe you could rework into lyrics. There is a song writing contest on right now.
Hey, ya never know.

Most great loves that last come from the loss of the previous. I'm not to familiar in the 'love' department as I am still searching for mine but this was a lovely poem. Thank you for sharing, NB

A very well-written poem. When we lose a life partner it is hard to love another. We are looking for our lost lover in the new person but cannot find him/her. We need a period of grieve before we can love again.

Yes, and I have learned that everyone has their own path and journey during the grieving process

Such emotion throughout. It's never easy moving on after you have loved deeply and lost.
I too lost my husband to cancer. It's been 11 years and I think of him everyday. In some ways I think it has helped me to write with feelings I never realised existed in me. I can feel the heartbreak and the struggle in your words. Even if this is not autobiographical, it has the soul of one mourning and afraid to take a step towards happiness.
I remarried 4 years ago. A special man who knows that I will never stop loving my first love because he is tucked safely away in my heart.
Keep writing it down...all the hurt, the loneliness, the hunger for his touch. It will comfort you for all time.
I loved your gentle and moving piece, it evoked memories and thoughts,
Thank you for sharing and blessings to you : )

Your story and words sent chills, the peaceful type. I too lost my husband to cancer along with two strokes during a surgery. We worked together so we spent 24/7 for 25 years.
I wish you much happiness. I too met a wonderful man and he lost his wife a few years ago, they were married 34 years. We both are blessed to be able to share our past as we create a future together.
    Life is a true adventure.
    Hugs
