Abortions are such a sad thing, but I do not feel that I have the right to force my beliefs on another. Often, a woman who has an child from unwanted pregnancy will live in poverty for the rest of her life. And so will her child. The male involved will not. I wish the women could be brave enough to carry the baby to term and then be braver still and release the child for adoption. The sad truth is, often no one will help them to do that. Instead, they are shunned and shamed. Being pregnant and in need of help is like having the plague. There's no support - financial or emotional.
It's a tough road no matter what choices are made. It may sound glib - one needs to walk a mile in those shoes before you can appreciate how rocky the road is.
A good poem with an exceptional message. I hope you make a few people think twice.

How sad. That is unbelievable! Just think of all the couples who can't have children. They would gladly take a baby and raise it, but the Government interferes and makes it expensive or impossible. Yes, It is a shame. It is the devil's work you know. Well done Tom. Nancy

The statistics quoted in your note certainly give more than pause for thought. I would not dream to challenge either those statistics or the deductions you have made from them in this exceptionally powerful piece. The only query I have is when you say you have changed the meter to pentameter. Unless I have lost some fingers recently I make this meter out to be tetrameter, four iambs to the line.

Thank you Pantygynt. you are right. I copied and pasted from another poem and didn't catch that. I'll correct my notes.

This surely states your feeling clearly and give strong images of what happens in an abortion. I didn't realize there are so many abortions. Maybe if more people thought about having the baby to give it up for adoption for those who can't have children there would be less abortions.

It seems you can make most medium length poem formats into sonnets. Do you think Shakespeare, Plutarch and Milton are rolling in their graves or are they happy because of the inventiveness.

Keep writing

I#m a big believer in 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone friend.'Unless you have walked in these poor women's shoes and know the depths of their despair...the pain that has driven some of them to make that life changing decision, you should not judge. Only He has the right to judge. A very good, impressive example of the form!

Thank you Hitcher. I appreciate you viewpoint. I am concerned as to what His judgement might be for them and our country.

Abortion is suc an unnatural thing to do and I realise that it is necessary in some cases. Your poem is harsh and makes the point perfectly, best regards, Dolly x

Thank you Dolly. I agree there as some valid circumstances, just not 59.5 million of them.

I enjoyed reading your rondel prime sonnet. "Pincers Probe". You had all your lines and meter for this genre correct and you chose a perfect picture. Unfortunately your poem is very sad but true.
Best of luck.
Marybell1.

I agree 100 percent. No one has the right to murder. Women can not claim this as a right, it's an accepted atrocity. If it's not a 'baby'...then, if it's wanted...why call the celebrations 'Baby Showers?' Unwanted....fetus. And yet....which of these 59 million might have changed the world. How many Einsteins, Grahams, how many Martin Luther Kings have we killed? 'And Jesus Wept.'

Your great-granddaughter is so adorable. God bless her to a happy, healthy long life. Omg and the subject for her cute little picture. It is still a taboo subject and proChoice. There are many reasons that are private. Each woman is different. Very debatable subject. Good commentary and author notes. Nice work
