I get what you are saying here but this poem made me think about life, in general.
With the world situation being what it is and the fact that the population is so extreme, so mass. There will always be differences, be it culture, race, religion, no matter what the differences are there will always be a choice or a choosing of sides. Who do we stand with or against? Or do we just draw our own line in the sand, so to speak? Are we taking sides?

"I have seen sides drawn up into lines
By the people who choose sides,
Black and white pieces
Facing each other
Across the board
On the field of battle
Where there are no winners and losers.

Whose side are you going to be on
When the sides get chosen up?
I am here, and you seem to be there,
Separated by all the distance
The game dictates
In the struggle for an outcome; "

This is a smart poem. It really gets the reader to use the mind, to meditate on what is read, then draw a conclusion.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting comments. I tried to create an obtuse poem that people with differing points of view could appreciate. Sides are a part of the geometry of the world, a part of the geometry of life. But do we stay in the walls, or break through them? estory

This is a poem that makes me stop and think. Evry day we must choose sides. How we choose decides the rest of our life and the life of those around us.

Sides...Outstanding poem!!! You took a look at all the angles (not one-sided, haha:)
Seriously though, I though it was a brilliant move to take and internal concept and transition it externally without specifically referring to people/s. Brilliant! Blessings, AmyJo

Thanks for the exceptional review, and for all your efforts and comments to support this poem. I am glad you enjoyed this obtuse look at sides, that tried to include everyone's experiences of differences of opinion, contests, and arguments. musically, the poem is built around repetitions of the word 'sides', morphing between different contexts, different experiences. estory

'stretch and break'...I do believe they all will. I know of no side that I willingly choose to be on. I can't find any topic, opinion, political party or religious affiliation, that I've ever just 'fit' into. The 'sides' stifled me. I love this poem. I do believe I'll remain a free spirit, and even the heavens can't hem me in, ha ha. Blessings...

I really like the ebb and flo of this piece. I found myself thinking of the lines we draw. We make lines to divide us onto sides. Sometimes we really don't even want to be on opposite sides, but our very nature puts us there. You bringing in the 'games' was inspired - why do we take sides just to play games?
Well done - this free verse flows well and has a great deal of rhythm,

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting comments supporting the poem. I am glad you enjoyed it. It always amazes me how many different people bring their own experiences to interpret a poem, to internalize their experience of it. estory

Whose side will come out on top?
Something to be considered
As we make our moves
From one side to the other
Across the board
As the pieces, the parts of sides
In the irreconcilable nature of games.

These are the distances and the distinctions
And the definitions of sides,
The distinct sense of separation,
Of being in between the lines of maps
Cutting across all hope '
You always do what you set out to do.Break barriers. Raise expectation. You always deliver too, quite amazing. Kindest regards Meia x

Very cool poem asks an eternal question. Well done! My only suggestion would be that in battle...no winners and losers - maybe no winners, only losers, because that's how it seems to me. But is fine as is. Great poem!
