Some incredibly introspective imagery in this nonet, Mav. I'm most fond of the roots toiling away unaware beneath the ground to ensure the leaves reach the light and stars.

This is a perfect concrete metaphor for faith and your presentation is stunning. Love the colours and perfect V.

Best wishes to you in the contest with this spectacular entry.

Wow, Ange. This is so humbling to receive such praise from you. I wish the site realized how important it is to have gifted writers to challenge us and make us stretch. You're one of those. Thanks for the beautiful review and the inspiration. Mav

I love the compelling closing, answering a question with a question that, ironically, answers the question. One cannot 'know' faith. One has to experience it.

Good flow Good original voicing and strong imagery.

Excellent phonetics, especially the T and S sounds and the medley of P and B (cousin sounds) in the first stanza. Fine cousin sound of soft C with S in second stanza as well. Sounds great read aloud.

Good cadence sculpting with punctuation choices. One optional suggestion (what you have is also fine):

My answer:

What is
faith?

I love the amazing AHA in the closing (within the context of imagery), worthy of a six.

Warmly, rd

I'm stunned and beyond pleased to receive such praise from my very favorite reviewer in the universe! Thank you so much. It feels good now to be able to use punctuation to some effect. I remember well pretending I left it out "intentionally" as poetic license. HAAAAHAHAHA! Thank you sooooo much. mike

Indeed, Michael, do we? I think all sentient beings toil unaware of the universe grandiosity and the spirit's perfection.

The only time my existence comes into perspective is when I go to the beach and stare at the ocean in complete awe.

Well done, my friend,

hugs

AMEN Bro. I get criticised for my simple faith at times. Loved your poem and the artwork and layout. I like the old Acrostic Forsaking All I Trust Him. Hope you and Donna are doing ok. People are leaving FS, mate. So sad. Less good writers to review. Someone asked about the song I wrote about my time at Grace Brothers in Chapter 22. I have now added the website link to that song. I wanted to put it in the chapter but the MP3 file was too big. Got messed up with a Revive Certificate recently but it is the engagement chapter if you have not seen it. Wedding chapter with new SDA Choir singing Psalm 27 we had sung at the wedding by a dear lady friend. Hope you can see that can't remember if I will get a Revive Certificate on that. Forget what chapter.

At first sight a non sequitur, but then I realised how clever this metaphor is. Here on earth we are in the dark, stretching down and out for nourishment seeking sustenance for a soul that seeks ever upwards for the light. A nonet that has something of the structure of a Haiku, with a definite ah-ha moment at the end.

What a marvelous and well written Nonet for this contest. I love that you asked and answered the question. Your choice of words is superb and so well presented. I am sure this will be a top contender. I sincerely wish you all the best in the contest too. I am out of 6's or I would give you one for this.

Faith is much like your trees that are reaching for the heavens, and also like the tree roots grounded solidly in the ground.

What a beautiful nonet, and the presentation is stunning.

I know you will do well in the contest. Good luck. 8-)

Nicely don Michael and I wish you the best in the contest.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Just as the roots of the tree in your poem is our faith. We cannot see our faith, but without it we can never grow. Patricia

Hi Mikey,

I think I just read the Nonet contest winner! You have done two things I wouldn't have thought of... the first is to format your nonet like it is in stanzas, which is brilliant (and something I've never seen anyone else do.) The second is to ask and answer a question so brilliantly in so few syllables per line.

Bravo!

I wish you the best of luck in the contest, but have a feeling you won't need it :)

Kim
