They are in misery, but they are accustomed to the misery and anyone who is not as miserable as they are looks like a stranger. <-- A truth few understand.

Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility. <-- SO true. It's what holds society back and disallows happiness.

Plenty of wisdom here. Well done.

Hi there, an interesting concept you're raising here. A concept that's been discussed throughout mankind, but never really been adopted. Very well written. All the best. Ulla:))

Hi Cogitator:

There is a lot of merit in what you say about the Utopian society, however, if all are answering to the one entity, 'Mom,' they aren't truly free to do as they wish. I do realize that freedom always carries responsibility, but in this instance it sounds like Joy and Adam are merely trading one yoke for another.

What did I miss?

Kim

Mom is a helpmate (like Siri), not a dictator. She will be fleshed out (pun intended) in future chapters. Thanks...John

It would really be lovely if this Utopian society existed. There is much to be said about a world without clocks or calendars. You have done a wonderful job in continuing to define this world. Thank you for sharing,

Man cannot live without small conflicts. Perfection is not part of his life. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read. There is very good imagery.

I loved this, and wished humans could learn from it:
>>There are some basic rules all Utopians are expected to follow. To live in an egalitarian society, we have to realize that no one person is better than, nor worse than, any other member. We are all born with talents and abilities that will differ, but that with proper communication, cooperation and collaboration, we can achieve any goal as a group. <<
Overall an incredible story that we all should read.
Keep it up Cogitator.
Best,
Apky

Hi there,

Well-written piece dealing with an interesting concept. idealism in its true form, one that man seems highly resistant to undertake.

"Adam! Good morning - do you really need the exclamation mark here? What will you use if something particularly noteworthy occurs? The sentence would lose nothing by omitting it. You do this for some innocuous phrasing in other areas of dialogue too. These should be used very sparingly.

we can achieve any goal as a group.

The community provides food - if starting a new paragraph in dialogue, there should be opening speech marks although the closing ones are reserved only for the final piece of dialogue.

All the best
GMG

This is an excellent and informative read. I think it is very well written. The characters are believable, and the story is believable. I read through to the end because I wanted to see where you were going with it. I was not disappointed.
There isn't anything I would do differently.
