IndianaIrish,
Well penned, fun haiku that deserves the win instead of the third place in the contest. I like your satori and the pink background. This was a fun read.

These words give a strong image of a game at a school picnic.

I like the color choices. The background watermelon pink and the black words the seeds.

Congrats on placing in the contest.

Keep writing

I agree, but there are haiku Nazi's out there who don't lol. With that being said, what a wonderfully crafted haiku you have delivered my friend. Love the idea behind it.
God bless!

I like the image this presents, Karyn. I took part in seed-spitting contests as a boy. So much fun! I like the added excitement of a teacher who joins in the fun. Your haiku doesn't need artwork, and good haiku poems don't. You tell the tale in three short lines of 5-8-4 syllables, 17 in all, where the first two lines are connected in theme, and the final line reflects the first two. I can hear the laughter, sheer glee on a summer afternoon. Who needs seedless watermelon?
This is a terrific entry for the contest... Good Luck!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thanks so much for your great review for my watermelon haiku, Kimbob. I'm delighted you enjoyed the poem, and your kind words are appreciated...as always. I feel bad kids these days have mostly seedless watermelons. They were a great chance to spit without getting into trouble.

Is this what teachers are doing these days? Ah well I suppose they call it fun, but I never let them go in my mouth in the first place! An unusual write and I wish you good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

This tells about kids watermelon seed-spitting fun match at school, it has game spirit, so interesting that school teachers join in; I liked, enjoyed.

Indianairish: wow! What a fun time with the students and the teacher.
Spit those seeds and chill outside. Tastes so good on a hot day. Creating
memories is terrific! Kids here have another month. flylikeaneagle

Yep. That would be it and it sounds just about right. I wonder why after all of those years I never aspirated a single one. I read it forwards and backwards and you delivered the same message. Well done.

Firstly, thank you for your author notes, they help to clarify and educate.

Secondly, I loved how you managed to get so much imagery and sense of fun crammed into such a short snapshot of work.

Thank you for sharing.
