I am very sad for you and your family's loss.
You wrote a very sad poem but one honouring both babies born. Even if for a short time, Simon was here long enough to make his mark on your heart.

I am sorry, I must have misunderstood the middle line. I have been so tired. I have been recovering from surgery so I am still quite tired.
I still feel for you and your family. Twins are delightful but it is hard on the mom and the babies.

I know lots of twins don't make it, or have a hard time in the beginning.
Diamantes are a bit tricky as they have that switch in the middle.
Sorry about your surgery. I didn't know. My thoughts and prayers are with you on your recovery!

Oh this made me cry. My daughter had a baby boy two months ago, a traumatic delivery but thankfully both are doing well today. I read your lovely and heartbreaking poem and it reaffirms my gratitude.

Awww, Shirley, thank you! That is so sweet, and sends a warm, fuzzy feeling all over me. That's exactly what I wanted to achieve with this poem -- a celebration of both lives!!

Congratulations on your grandson, as well, and I'm sorry she went through so much. But you have him, just like I have the grandson who survived. They were cousins, but to me they were both my grandchildren.

Yes, the form is ideal to compare and contrast the babies. So sorry to hear that Bella didn't make it. It sounds like she was premature. I hope they have another child soon.

Thank you for the review and kind words. Yes, Bella was very premature, but managed to live 25 minutes after birth. That may not seem long, but it was her lifetime.

Thank you, Heidi. It was definitely a roller coaster week. Since my daughter (the one with Simon) and my son (the one with the baby who didn't make it) live states apart, one event didn't eclipse the other. I think I was the one most effected by both births, and thus, the diamante.

I know, it was a tragedy, and yet, I made sure my son and daughter-in-law knew their baby was important. I congratulated them on the birth of their child, and told them I was proud of them for their bravery under fire.

What a terrible sad shame. Still you do have the one. I think this is a lovely way of remembering them as the pair they once were and by ending the poem on the surviving twin the glass remains half full. when all is said and and done this is an optimistic piece. life hangs by a thread.

Yes, life does hang on a thread. In this case, the babies weren't twins. My daughter and daughter-in-law were both pregnant at the same time, but my daughter was a trimester ahead. Both went into labor the same week, and both gave birth. The little girl was woefully premature, and only lived 25 minutes, but still lived. My grandson is alive and well.
