This is a sad and melancholy read, but ends on a positive note. "Like a Bird From it's cage has flown, I'll fly away" Reminds me of one of my very favorite gospel songs. Well written, good intro, middle, and ending. The picture is captivating.
Blessings,
Brother Badger

You have written an excellent poem. The sentiment that it expresses is tremendous. Too often all the hard years that someone puts into life and giving to others is neglected. Thank you for reminding us.

One day we will all leave this world. We need to have things in our lives in order so our children and family will be at peace with our life and our death. Blessing, Mary have a good day. Patricia

This has clarity of thoughts (theme), plot, imagination and expression; easy to relate; I liked and enjoyed the read, brevity and expressibility with a resolution.

A very well-written dribble flash fiction. When we grow older, the children start their own lives and their time is limited to once a week phone call to check if mom is still alive, to get through the day, we do little things that don't really matter.

Love the artwork you've chosen Mary for this emotional story of this grand old lady who had such a full life, but now alone, just her and her bird-watching. Great ending that she wants to 'fly away and leave this world behind'
Good luck in the contest,
cheers

Hi there,

You did a great job embuing this short piece with emotional depth. It flows well and the short word count is used to good effect.

All the best

Weary yes, but the stories and experiences lock away in that mature mind, we can all learn a thing or two from listening to our oldies. A very good story for the contest friend. Good luck!! Parents should never have to be old and lonely when they have children still breathing...

A great contest entry. In such few words I felt a real sadness for this woman. I was affected by your writing. Thank you so much for sharing and good luck.
