Excellent free verse with some rhyming and done in such a wonderful way to introduce this person. I remember some of his works and they were absolutely wonderful. 'Cat's in the Cradle' was my favorite. I remember the crash that took him

An ode in Whitney form for a bio poem prompt. I remember clearly Taxi and Cat, and admired Harry for stepping out of the marching band with something a hairbit different. Complex form poems are difficult for me, so I respect authors who try them. Fivers.

You make this look so easy with syllable counts. I know that it is not.
I tried to count the words and syllables for a challenge. It's like a
puzzle to get just the right word. You can fly like a bird anytime...I do.
It's great to have friends to encourage you even if you don't know them.
Study, write and most of all...have fun! flylikeaneagle

An excellent well written biography in a poem, a nice way to honour someone you had a lot of respect for. It is a good easy to read poem. Best wishes and good luck in the contest.

You chose a wonderful, often overlooked, songwriter as an object for your ode. Thanks for the author's notes that give some of the background on your personal connection to Harry Chapin. One of the great things about art in general, is that it can become so personally meaningful to individuals. Your poem is a fantastic illustration of that aspect of art. Well done.

Very good ode Poet
After reading this part of your poem
Your work for ending World Hunger
The fundraiser concerts
You played everywhere
Gave your fans your unique sound
Reminded me of what Harry said
The reason I fight for the arts as well as against hunger is because the arts are the qualitative way, are the effective way, are the traditional way we learn to make value decisions about who and what we are.

I have been a Harry Chapin fan for quite some time and so I was immediately drawn to your poem. You've done a great job of weaving his songs with how he lived his life. I remember one of his albums stating that many schools have food drives to feed people on Thanksgiving. That was great--but what about the next day, he asked. I'm glad there's still many who are responding to that question.

This poem brought a tear to my eye, although I have never heard of him. I liked your moving poem and found the words struck a core in me. He looks a good man. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Comment from Poetic Friend
Honestly, prior to reading your poem, I had no idea who was Harry Chapin. Based upon your well-written poem and author's notes, he was a humanitarian and a fine poet.
Your poem did his legacy justice. I am anxious now to read his work and hear his songs.
Thank you and good luck in the contest.
