The unforgettable inspiration you gleaned from Harry is so poignantly portrayed in this poem, Patty. Glad to have read it! What a wonderful memory!

Hi; thank you for reading my tribute to Harry. Yes, he had a great inspiration on me, my writing, and a few decisions I've made along the way about how to live my life.

I enjoyed your tribute to Harry Chapin and his dedication to music that teaches, enlightens, and encourages. His "Cat's In The Cradle" hit home to so many at the time and still serves as a warning for those who put jobs ahead of family. I can't say that his, or anyone's, association with Bill Ayers brings anything but a frown, but the overarching message of his life and work is a good one. I am so glad that he inspired you to change your abusive situation and helped you find your poetic voice. Thanks for the poem and the highly interesting author note. - Wendy

thank you so much for stopping by to read and review. Harry was one of a kind, and his body of work in several different areas is his legacy.

Hi,
This is a perfect Ode. I could feel how much you admired him and how he impacted on your life. I found funny the way he reacted with your husband there :)
I can relate, somehow. Tolkien has been such as inspiration to me, though I was not so lucky and never met him.
A good friend
Weaver of tales -- Particularly like this part. So simple and yet, it says so much.
God luck!

Very good job, you were able to write a very emotional and descriptive obituary. I could tell you really put your heart into this Ode, which makes it very personal and meaningful. Good job!

This is a lovely poem to honor Harry Chapin, his music and contribution to his societal cause of ending hunger. Your author's note is well written, clear, and interesting. There are always those we meet who change our life forever. It sounds as if Harry was one of those people for you. Marilyn

I don't know who you are because your poem about Harry Chapin is a contest entry, but I wish to tell you a big thank you: for a great poem and for the prose about his life. I love "Cats in the Cradle" and didn't know about Harry Chapin. Thank again.
Well done.

Great bio poem on Harry Chapin. What a terrific write in the poem and notes. It is truly a sad ending. Years ago my sister bought a house right next to Harry Chapin"s although he already passed, his family still lived there. Between his house and my sister's property was divided by a short dead end to the beach. So our beach adjoined there's. of course both property's were very large. I was probably 15 yrs old then, I thought it to be so neat, especially being a big fan of his as a teenager. Best of luck to you in the contest. ~kerry~

Dear Mystery Poet,
I'm afraid that I didn't really like your poem -- for THIS contest, that is. As I understand it, this contest asked for a poem that honored the person and offered a BIOGRAPHY of their life. Your poem only spoke to his current life before death and four of the five stanzas were about how he affected you. I don't think this meets the requirements. Sorry. Good luck, though.

Thal, the creator of the contest, let me know that THIS was exactly what he was looking for. That being said, you are entitled to your opinion. Thank you for your review

I think you have done very well with your Bio-poem. You tell the reader what you think is most important regarding this musician's life, but you do something more. You also relate your personal relationship to his music. Music should move the listener in a variety of ways. In your case, a chance encounter with him inspired you and still does. Well done.
I, too, like Chapin's music. He had amazing insight and keen skills of observation which served his telling of stories well.
Good luck in the contest...
