Dear Rhonda,

It seems to me that you will be using technology wisely. Empowering students to take command of how and what they learn.

Good luck in the future with this. I am glad you have the students put away their cell phones.

Warm regards,

Winslow

sounds like a fascinating tool...student led discussions.
I believe that teaching is actually the best way to 'learn'. So, the students will be mentally more involved in anticipation of their 'turn' to lead the class. They will have to listen to each and every one's ideas, not just the teacher and their own.
Obviously, since you attended a lecture conference, your class is basically for the gifted and 'talented', right? It would be a challenge to keep their interest, I'm sure, just as it is in any normal classroom.
I DO wish you luck. It will be an interesting experiment to follow!

You're right, my model is based on teaching gifted students. I've been teaching at them for years, and the highest achieving score high, the lowest hang on by the skin of their teeth, and the truly gifted tune me out, or, like John, become disenchanted, of not dangerous. I wanted a program that would reach all types.

Thank you for joining in the journey with me. I would appreciate any and all ideas,

    Take care,

This was very interesting to me, as an "old school" student from the days when all knowledge came from Teacher.

I can't wait to see you and John and how things will progress from now.

Thank you so much. I grew up in the "teacher tells" days, but for a while, I lived in Douglasville, Georgia. In that little school, I had teachers do much like what I have planned, and I've remembered my lessons all these years. It wasn't the same exact thing, but it was more student-led and discovery.

Thanks for reviewing, and I hope you continue to read it.

Hi Rhonda,

As a one-time elementary school teacher, I'm delighted to walk this journey with you. Love the concept of disappearing walls. Sounds wonderfully intriguing and challenging. Wish I were one of the students ... or a fly on the walls, at least.

Best wishes in the writing project!

Love,

Sonali

Thank you, Selina. I appreciate your comments and support. I welcome you following along with me on this journey, and for giving suggestions along the way. I've had a lot of fun with the program, but especially would like ideas on rewards. I'll get to that chapter later, and you'll see what I mean.

    Love,
    Rhonda

-A good chapter, Rhonda.
-I like the interaction between you and the students.
-I assume as the chapters continue, more students will be involved as they learn more about this method.
-You also have a good rapport with the class.
-They respect you, but aren't afraid to question, either.
-I find the process that will take place interesting and the steps are logical and well explained.
-I was also glad to see John back and hope he is successful.

Thank you, Pam for the stars and support.
Actually, I will talk about several of the other students. I call them case studies. John is the most dramatic, but there are others as well. Spoiler--John does end up leaving, but not before leaving his mark.
On the questioning, it actually has taken them and me awhile to get to a really comfortable place to be open with each other. Some classes it was harder than others, and, again, that will come up more later.
In the end, all kids have gotten involved, and I will include videos of them.
    Thanks again,
    Rhonda

You are very welcome, Rhonda. I am curious when you started this project with students. Was it just this year? It's easy to forget how something new can take a while to develop, esp. with differing personalities in each class. It is interesting to read about.

Parts of it I've been working on for several years, then I had the dry run of a more encompassing plan before Christmas, then it's just been this semester that it's been working, but it has taken on a life of its own once I put it into play, and we problem solve as we go. I'll have a chapter on that as well.
    Again, thanks so much!

I like the idea of walls that disappear,
maybe you could send this to President Trump.
Or better yet, maybe you could make him disappear.
Now, back to the adventure into your future;
that would make a great title; An Adventure into Your Future
or Chemistry All Around You.
I wonder if maybe those cell phones should already have been away.
This looks as though it's going to be a very good program.
It usually takes a little time for everyone to "buy in"
but you're going in the right direction.
I would change one statement: "I sincerely hope I'm needed,
but not quite in the way I used to be." Better for job security!
Excellent chapter, my friend!

Note: I noticed you told Roy 90% of the students love it,
and 20% are okay with it. Your math students might see some humor here.

That's funny, I didn't notice they math part. I guess 10% go back and forth on it.
I like the change suggestion on hoping I'm needed. That does sound much better.
The buy in part has come fast for some kids, and slower for others. There have been times we've had to problem solve to make it happen, but that's a good thing.
The cell phones are used in my class a lot because the kids can get on Google Classroom with them, listen to my videos and do research. They do this with the chrome books as well. Yes, some do misuse both, but as I keep the class highly competitive and fast paced, they don't do it often.
Thanks, for the wonderful six star rating, and for the brilliant review. Both are quite helpful.
    Take care,
    Rhonda

I am enjoying reading novel. You are doing a good job writing this. I know it sounds really strange, but it sounds a little like my first grade class. I guess kind kids resemble kids no matter what age, with just a few differences.

You know, I was actually trying to reach back to their childhood to find things that made kids excited about school. Why is it kids love going to school when they are young, but hate it in high school? We've taken all the fun away. A lot of what I'm doing is a grown up version of stations. I especially need help with ideas for rewards, and for challenges to keep them engaged. You'll see in a later chapter the ideas I have in place, but elementary people are so much better at these things than high school.

    Thanks so much,
    Rhonda

Hi Rhonda,
This is a good interesting chapter
It seems like having the kids doing something that is
practical and makes sense to them will help them assimilate the information better.
If it doesn't make sense. They'll get frustrated with it and you'll loose them
Writing this book and or project that your doing for your principal is really a high compliment to your teaching abilities and your skills as a writer.
I know this is quite a challenge for you
But here is a way to make it whole a lot easier.
When you sit down to write pray and ask GOD to help you write it and to give you the right words in JESUS' name. When you do that, the words will flow out easily for you. But do it every time you sit down to write.
If you don't you'll struggle harder than necessary to write it.
Test it. It will work
the requirements are:
1. ask GOD for HIS help in writing the book/ project in your own words and from your heart
2. end by asking in JESUS' name
3.scripture reference: John 14: 13-16
If I was asked to do that kind of project this is exactly what I would do and how I would do it.
This is the best help I can offer.
I will be praying for your
success with the book/ project.
Best regards,
K River

Wow, thank you so much, K. I never thought about that, and as a Christian I should have. I will certainly do it, and then the strain will be removed as I truly believe it was Him, who put me onto this method.

    Take care,
    Rhonda

    Hi Rhonda,
I am so glad you are a Christian
I was unsure how what I wrote to you to do would be received
But regardless I had the leadings to write it so I did.
I know that it was GOD giving those words for you
Look those scriptures up GOD repeats the same promise within those verses
and then again in John 15 and 16 Look for the verse that says almost verbatim the same promise.
This book will eventually help a lot of teachers help a lot of kids learn more effectively
    praise the LORD
Best wishes for success with you book/ project If you'll do exactly what you were told to do you and follow through you can't fail.
    Best regards,

I have felt God in this from the very beginning. I kept sing the song, "Light a fire down in my soul that I can't contain, and I can't control..." It's been like I've been on fire, and absorb everything I can about the program. I told my assistant principal I'm just riding the wave. She told me that at least I had the courage to get on." The wave came from God, not me, but I'm honored to be a part of it.

Thanks again. I'll look up the scriptures!

    Rhonda,
I think you'll be blown away when you read these promises that can be applied
to your situation That is what happens when you sing a prayer song from your heart GOD through the HOLY SPIRIT answers big time. What a truly wonderful blessing. I am glad to hear it is happening for you. But I am not surprised. I am sure more will be on the way soon.

This is very well written as it has the details of a science project and the conversational style of a great facilitator. The details are sufficient that the reader can actually "see" this story take place.

A thought:
"There were general nods of understanding from the collective. Most kids were eager to get started, but a few were still apprehensive. John who, it seemed, hadn't left yet, sat in the back, an eyebrow cocked, unsure."

--- In this sentence, it says that John hadn't left yet. This was confusing because first one student can and pointed to the empty desks. So, John wasn't there before class began. And so--why should John be leaving and where was he going in the middle of class?

It explains in the first chapter that John wasn't wanting to take his quiz because he was planning on leaving the district and didn't need the grade. He was still in class, even after a long Christmas break.

Thank you for the wonderful review and comments. I welcome all suggestions, and will explain my reasoning if it wasn't something I hadn't thought of. Thanks!

The class seems to have got off to a good start - It's great that they can sit where they want in group work too. It's a bold move on your part - you must be a very dedicated teacher, Rhonda.

I very interesting read and well-presented, my friend.

a couple of minor things:

fifteen-year-olds

Restaurant
