...Minds quiet and innocent
Take that for an hermitage...

Lovely.
You master the wending and weaving of words...
And you woo me down easy,
Wafting like a leaf on a breezy
Spring day...

I like it best this way.

Well done and great luck in this contest (though not TOO much) lol

Wonderfully done with just the right amount of rhyme scattered about.

Thank you so much for this lovely review, Cat, and for the six star accolade. Both very much appreciated, as always. Tony
p.s. Are you in for Jim's free verse workshop series? I'm thinking about it.

Free verse, my favourite type of poetry and what a wonderfully poem you have penned.
I love its structure with many memorable lines, the last stanza is brilliant.
Have a great evening

A very well-written free verse poem. We look for freedom everywhere around us. It is only possible to be free when you set your mind free and find inner peace.

I found this work to be exceptional in all ways. It immediately grips the reader with interest and follows consistently with interesting prose and poetic perfection. The presentation format is excellent and generally, there is nothing I can imagine to improve this work...and I thank the author for a fine read! HIS GRAYNESS

An excellent Free verse that is perfect for the world in which we live. There are so many ways this poem resonates with me. In the opening, I see the person who has lived when their universe of friends, family, and perhaps their life partner has died and all they can do is endure their circumstance and wait for fate to at last come find them. But then it felt deeper than that and more an expression of how mankind as a word is an oxymoron. We are not the noble ideal of 'man' nor are we 'kind' I saw how people whose lives have been overrun by oppression and war must endure and how torn they are that they must either overcome or flee, often with nothing but grief in their baggage, and an ounce or two of hope that they can outrun evil.
The world of men would do much to follow the examples set by birds. They are devoted to their young, and live life without oppression. Free, in every way that one can be free.
Excellent poem that has lots of meat and taters in it.

This poem leaves opened the emotions, there is denounced the real love as an explosion where the being is dazzled before the nice and beautiful of the life, there are many certainties and without doubts very much fondness in your letters, congratulations for the admirable work.

The image you chose is fantastic - one of those pictures that truly is worth a thousand words. Speaking of words, I love how this one starts out with a fairly rigid rhyme and meter and evolves into free verse - in that sense it mirrors the picture not only in content, but in form. And, of course, the message is one of those profound truths - freedom involves one's mindset as well as one's circumstances. A great poem!

Wow! great job with this free verse, Tony. the subject matter is perfect and your last stanza is a great summation:

"
Freedom may be sought,
and its semblance sometimes bought,
but without inner peace
and equanimity,
we're never truly balanced,
never fully free."

I think yo really do have the winner here, my friend. Good Luck. Bob
