Your poem came out perfect. It is sad and tells of depression. I hope that is not the case, however, it happens... And I unfortunately understand. Well thought out. Nicely written and in good poetic form. Great work.

The Dark is indeed about a bout of depression. I have them off and on and its been that way since I was a child. I'm doing much better these days - writing has been a great outlet,

You see--here you tried a form for the first time and managed it very well. You followed the rictameter's pattern perfectly and the impact is compelling. I could hear your "dread" and poignant yearning for "some light". I hope the dark mood has passed. Hugs- Joan

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. The dark mood comes and goes; the wonders of being BiPolar! However, by challenging myself to write poetry rather than prose has given me something to strive for AND that will always bring me out of the dark. Your praise really made my day!

I am delighted to hear that writing poetry is therapeutic for you. Enjoy the rest of the day and weekend- Joan

I love the light because it shows us the way, but I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars. I loved your rictameter poem and you've inspired me to give the format a try.
Wishing you all the best...

Holy moly! I wrote one of these for a contest a few years back, but with a slight difference in the form. It required the meter as, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, with the last word repeating the first. Of course.
Now I know there is more than one way to do the form.
Excellent poem, by the way. The only thing I'd change is in the second to last line, so it reads, "Alone in my".
Yeppers. I'm weird that way.

This sounds like depression. I suffer with it mostly in the winter months. I like this form and I like that you didn't force any rhyme - just one natural flowing one:)

Wow, it's amazing that you can create a poem that fits into the syllable count.
The poem is replete with despondency and dread. The image blends well with the content.

Thank you for reading and reviewing. You wouldn't believe how many times I had to count each line on my fingers. LOL! I'm glad you enjoyed my first attempt at this form.

I've not heard of this poetry form before, so I am being educated. I love the resonating message of grief, loneliness and darkness, a profound write, love Dolly x

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. I found this form amongst the author's notes of our various poets on the site. It intrigued me so I thought I would try one. It was fun!

You are very good at this poetry stuff. I'm not an expert, but I have been reading and reviewing a lot of poetry lagely. I see the form and it looks very well done. I still feel your sadness.

Hi Patty, this is very well done. The words you have chosen are good and the whole thing makes sense. All lines are written with perfect syllable count. Your first attempt at this form and you've done incredibly well. Warm regards Dorothy x

The Rictameter is one of my favorite short forms of poetry, they can be tricky and one needs a deft touch to pull them off. For your first attempt I have to say...Nice! They can be addictive because they are a lot of fun putting together. Well Done!
