This reads so beautifully in rhythm and the flow of the words are so smooth! The very common event of a moth landing on the window at night is given a greater perspective as the poet gives us pause to think about our own ephemeral nature pondering the "filtered firmament" of our own minds.

And, you have it. My last 6 for the week. Beautiful rhyme meter and flow, Tony. I used to have a phobia about moths which I'm happy to say has been mostly calmed down. If the poet were to open that window, the moth would be fried by the candles flame -- so leaving him on the panel, rather than in pain is a kindly gesture. I love your ballad meter in this, and found myself singing the words as I read along.
Perfect poem in every way a poem can be perfect.
Bravo
Rose

Touching. This below, I found brilliant:

but I'll maintain a poet's right
to keep the window closed,
and pen my prisoned thoughts upon
this moonlit moth's repose.

More please....

GOSH this poem has it all, milky moonlight whisperings, it is so perfectly paced and gentle as the flutter of the Moths wings. A virtual six for sure, very well done Meia x

What a beautiful poem. Very enjoyable. Outstanding imagery of the delicate moth - "A feathered brush on powdered wing" and "There, painted on its wings outspread, two iridescent eyes." Marilyn

A beautiful ballad for the underappreciated little moth. Some are so beautiful but I too would keep the window closed and keep the little creatures outside.

Lovely rhyme and meter Tony along with good use of alliteration throughout.

Well done.

Blessings
Janet.

Beaitfully composed work that rings of great expression and it's a favourite iambic tetrameter/trimester form that suits the songwriting love I have, and I should be going back to. Who would have thought that the humble moth, who is less lauded than its beauteous cousin, would evoke such lovely expression and descriptive expression, well done, Tony, blessings, Roy

Hi Tony:

What an exquisite piece. I could spend half a page extolling the virtues of it line by line for the intricacies of your expert ballad meter, alliteration, the consonance of t, d, s, f, p, and m. Your rhyme is in perfect measure.

What a simple subject to evoke such beauty. My favorite stanza has to be the last:

but I'll maintain a poet's right
to keep the window closed,
and pen my prisoned thoughts upon
this moonlit moth's repose.

Exceptional work and well worthy of the six shiny stars which I've bestowed.

Kim
