Dear John-Dear Jaybird

Rather funny now ,but pretty serious back when it happened

These autobiographical poems are so interesting! Your rhyme and word sculpting leads me well from the beginning "romance" to the harsh reality that love can be as fleeting as a short leave from the service! Never did understand the humanity of a "Dear John" letter-- or lack thereof, rather! Thanks for sharing!--Karenina

Awe Jaybird1,
This is so sad, and I know what a dear john letter is - I think that you did everything you could and it wasn't meant to be. Sometimes we can love super hard someone that we want and they will never want us back. It is really hard when that happens and it makes me sad that you had that happen especially when you were serving our country. I hope though that life found someone else for you. Cheers, Fonda

This well-written narrative poem conveys how very painful a break-up can be.
Such memories stick with us, even if we have successfully moved on. The
image of dying embers is especially moving.

Hi Jay,

Awww...I'll bet that was devastating back then when it happened. Saddened to hear you had that wxperience.

But, being the wise gentleman that you are, I'm certain you turned it all around -- you and your Harley.

Thanks for sharing,

Jan

this poem is classic in its construction with rhyming quatrains and a solid theme. I have not received such a letter myself but I am familiar with the lore. great job, Jaybird...................meeshu

Not a fun way to learn your love is leaving. Sounds like a Harley was a better choice anyway. Hope it all worked out for the best.
Excellent rhyme and meter to tell this story.
Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed this read, Jaybird1. You have such an easy style that is immensely readable and smooth. You seemed to deal with this heartbreak very effectively. Love the ending.

I was very distressed for you, having heard many stories about this phenomenon. It just seems too sad to me. However, if she is this way, maybe it was all for the better. And a Harley seems a soothing potion for a broken heart. Very good poetry.

It could happen to anyone... But her loss. I think breaking up with someone in a letter is a horrible way to end a relationship. Nowadays it's by text message. I think anyone who would do that, wasn't worth the trouble anyway. Thanks for sharing.
