In the beginning, you asked the reader to think as if he or she is a juror in a trial of your life weighing the facts carefully and impartially. I assure you I am not reading your story judging you.
As far as the card went. I thought it odd the wording. There is a lot of hurt and disappointment there. There is nothing you can do. My suggestion let it lay. I do not know nor do I want to know the history behind the pain.
If you and the family member have some unaddressed issues then down the road address them. If not let time be the healer and the proof of change , Sometimes the hurt and pain can not be undone.
It is easy for a stranger to give advice to someone they do not know. But not knowing them is also a problem. You are the one who must make peace with the demons of your past and the people in it.

LIfe is too short and too precious to try to degrade someone every chance they get. There was no spirit in that card and your writing is a great message and well written

I agree, a Christmas card is not the proper time to make such comments. Another thing is, that our time, even when we are making mistakes is never wasted if we have learned from those mistakes. Many who are critical tend to forget just how sorry they have been in the past themselves. Keep writing and learning and forget about those who are critical. Blessings Patricia
