This is an absolutely magnificient piece using different styles of form and rhyme making it flow uniquely in telling this horrendous story. I never heard of this but your telling made it real and I must admit, very scary. Nicely done

One so young might be rehabilitated. But still, no matter how Cujo got rabies, he had to be stopped. Excellent thorough account of an unfortunate child's frenzy.

It is sad that Mary Bell has been allowed to go on with her life and become a grandparent--something she denied her victims. Although your notes explain the reasons for her heinous crimes, I still do not understand how a person--a child, no less--could steep in such depravity. You told your poem in the anger and in the sadness this troubling subject deserves:

"But every now and then you'd smile
As if reliving, for a warm and glowing while
those moments when the power was all yours
They found you guilty, then they locked the doors."

Your story is dramatic, violent, and sad. I see the actions unfold like a horror movie. It is sometimes true, as in this case, that sexually abused children grow up to abuse others. Her case was unusual in that she abused children her own age and killed children who were much younger.

Thank you for remembering these forgotten victims and honoring their lives snuffed short. You show a deep passion for the most abused and victimized in our society.

I've not heard this story before. How tragic. We don't really know what some children are made to live with. Makes you sick. Today the abuse may have been discovered but back then no one believed such things. We had several abusive neighbors when I was growing up but you just never did anything about it back then. Makes me feel terrible when I think of it now. Well done.

Talk about truth being stranger than fiction. That she started out life with such bad acts--those forced on her and those she chose-- would have made many doubt she could ever lead a normal life. It seems she did. It would be interesting to know what changed her life. Did prison actually save her? That she lived so close to your mother at the time of the murders is particularly chilling since it lends that credibility to the story. Well told story and the author notes lend even more background.

This is a very good work, Meia. Unlike some works of a similar style and form, yours keeps the story understandable. The application of rhymes is a bit evasive in that sometimes there are verses that rhyme in a traditional sense, and other portions that appear to be free verse or rhyming free verse. But this is just an observation, not a criticism. But I have to confess, Meia, I tend to avoid your work because they are almost always about the dark events and tragedies of life. It can get a bit depressing - even if fascinating.

thankyou so much for your very kind remarks, I do understand the darker side of my work can offend or upset. But I work like a historical criminoligist through poems, if that makes sense, thats kind of what i do. kindest regards meia x

Another story I had never heard about before. How chilling to think a child could commit such murders. Of course, she had a horrible childhood, but others have, and didn't turn into murderers. The amazing thing is, she ended up having a child and grandchild.

Too strange, good poem and story,
Rhonda

These poems of real people that are so bizarre are well done and very informative. Taking the facts and forming them into and entertaining poem is difficult. Well done.

Quite a story in a well-written poem. This tale is incredibly chilling, right to the bone. Such a tragedy and horror for such a young child to be abused and victimized and then lash out and murder at such a young age. Thank you for the information on Mary Bell. Very informative.
