Nothing like a pretty bird to guide you to the fish. What I most enjoyed about this one is in those very few words, you created a vivid image ... not that easy to do. But this painted the entire picture: the bird overhead, the fisherman with rod in hand, the water rippling, the moment of discovery, the smile that the fisherman probably had on his face, the serenity of the moment, the beauty of the scene, the feeling of nature and man working together ... like I said, everything.
Excellent!

I can almost see, in my mind, a robin singing over a large flounder that has recently been caught, I hope there's no cat around that doesn't like fish.

I kind of don't get it...is it a fat baby trying to fly and floundering over the fisherman's head? That is something I would love to see - I love to see baby birds flying around, we always have sparrow nests, and others, in our eaves. BTW, that's not a robin in the photo but he's still cute. Anyway - you've got me ready for spring now with your poem - and it's not even really winter yet here, ha ha!

Why isn't it a robin?
-
Maybe it's a European Robin. American Robins have yellow beaks, and black heads, with all the red on their chest and stomach. Sorry, I don't mean to be pedantic - this is what happens when you get a scientist in the group :/
-
Hmmm... I'm not a scientist, but I'm a robin (robyn) and that's what they look like around here. *smile*
-
And you don't sound pedantic at all. You sound like you know something, actually. Which is a good thing. *smile*
-
I don't see them in California, but in Montana they're all over the place - the American Robin - big fat ones. Very cute :)))

Along the fisherman's perch
The Robin sings as morning turns
Soon the Founder will come to treat
Waiting Robin with a tweet
Still how many Robins eat the fish?
More the taste of gulls to lurch
Still the sweet sound of the Robin
Brings the fisherman a blessed sign

This is a very sweet haiku you have penned. You used very good descriptive wording talking about the little fat robin singing. I could see it close to the fisherman's head close to the flounder. I enjoyed it very much! Blessings, Teri
