A very good poem and with good content, too. Expectations of anyone but ourselves set us up for disappointment and failure. The one person we can control is self and sometimes not even that. Marilyn

I think that most all of us who put pen to paper cross a threshold at some point in time. That is an internal transition where we consider ourselves to be a writer. Your kind words and encouragement have helped push me closer to the point of no return, where I put myself in a class with you, the writers of FanStory. I believe that this poem, EXPECTATION, is a seminal piece for me. I want to thank you so very much for taking the time to read and then to review my work. For your kind words and five wonderful stars, I stand in awe! May God bless you! Dr. Nad

unrealistic expectations bring with it such disappointment and bitterness but you expressed it well " frustration plagues all the human race" so do not lay down that quill unless its to get a pen lol

What a great read. One I can for sure relate to. It ends beautifully with your unrealistic expectation. I expect little from anyone except myself. Then I'm only disappointed in me. Thank you for sharing this great read.

And that's a fine line, is it not? Between realistic and unrealistic. I walk that line myself as a teacher. Frustration? Boredom? When do you know when and where to push?
Great poem, and great theme,
Rhonda

At the age of seventy-eight, I now know that my expectations for myself at this age were unrealistic as now the body is beginning to have quite a lot of pain, so I have to just slow down, relax and rely on God to keep me. Patricia

An excellent poem, by all means keep writing, you are good at it. About that line: Choices we make have consequences, let me talk to you about that hair.

So true. I expect from me, and if I disappoint myself, I deal with that. But it's very damaging to self, and other people to put unrealistic expectations on them. When they let us down, and they do.....we are hurt, angry. Needlessly. Great poem! Sunday blessings to you!!!

I learned years ago never expect someone to take the time to do things right if you can't prove to them you been there done that first. Some people need a little push now and then.

I think this is a really good first piece.
You develop your theory, your life learned philosophy logically, while leading the reader to understand the Man/God concept of Expectations that we all tend to twist to our own needs.
Well done.

This is a really sound initial effort here. Let me say I live by your premise as each of us is only accountable for our own soul - we can set an example to be followed, we can pray for others, we can encourage, and we can admonish. In the end, joy only comes to those who nurture their own spiritual growth.
Your piece is really more than one poem which makes it lengthy. Focus on what the primary goal of a piece should be - what you want Your rhyme in this is solid, but you need to relax more as if you have to think about or force a thought to fit than it does not belong. Meter is the rhythm of a piece and this is good in the beginning but starts to deteriorate the farther along one goes - reading aloud is a good gauge as to whether it flows like a lazy river or is choppy like the rapids. Nicely done and thank you very much for sharing it.

For your kind words and five wonderful stars, I stand in awe! Part of the contrivance you feel is the fact that each line is constructed with nine syllables. One of the limitations of writing is that it has the potential of losing the rhythm and flow that can be a part of the oral experience delivered by a person who really knows the poem. May God bless you! Dr. Nad
