I think that most all of us who put pen to paper cross a threshold at some point in time. That is an internal transition where we consider ourselves to be a writer. Your kind words and encouragement have helped push me closer to the point of no return, where I put myself in a class with you, the writers of FanStory. I believe that this poem, EXPECTATION, is a seminal piece for me. I want to thank you so very much for taking the time to read and then to review my work. For your kind words and five wonderful stars, I stand in awe! May God bless you! Dr. Nad

God's Word say a lot of things about placing our trust and faith in man, and resting all our expectations upon their slender shoulders.
We'll be very disappointed if we do.
Psalms 118:8 - It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
Micah 7:5 - Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.
Jeremiah 17:5 - Thus saith the LORD; Cursed [be] the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
Psalms 118:9 - It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.
Psalms 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
Romans 13:8 - Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Galatians 6:3 - For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Hebrews 12:14 - Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Psalms 40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, [even] praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Isaiah 31:1 - Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!
Great poem, inspiring and well rhymed. Profoundly spiritual and insightful.

This is very well written and boy did you put in the work on this one. I love the picture and the rhyme. You need to put your next one in a contest.
Have a great day and God bless.

Thank you for your poem of unrealistic expectations. Marriages have ended because of unrealistic expectations. The couples are unfilled because the expectations were unmet, which were actually unrealistic.
Hopefully, your poem will get the praise it deserves.

Hello,
I don't often read poetry as I am terrible at interpreting other people's thoughts most of the time. But you hit the nail on the head with this one. I have reasonable but lofty expectations of myself but do not necessarily expect the same results from from others - the same effort but not necessarily the same payoff. I refuse to allow others to bring me down and expecting beyond their capabilities can do that. So, I just look for the effort. Well-written with a steady, even rhythm. A nice choice of words. I wouldn't throw away the quill yet! Best to you,
Alan

Hi
I enjoyed reading your poem about observations of how we tend to feel at different stages in our lives. I agree with your notes about having high expectations we are inevitably disappointed.
Well done

Hi DR.NAD. and interesting poem and a good even flow with your 9 syllables hard to do but this is consistent and yes our expectations are ours and sometimes we have to compromise in order to achieve them .I liked your narrative through the growing years (not into God so I don't have any expectations from him) Your write well keep it up Cheers Christine

A poignant write, when I worked in customer services we were always taught to lower the expectation of the customer so that we could then over deliver! I agree when you expect a lot from yourself, you the expect others to perform too. I notice that your poem has the constraints of 9 syllables which is always harder to produce a good flow, but you achieved that and I enjoyed the read, love Dolly x
