I think the problem you describe has almost killed America. The discontent that
has the nation in a dither is from those unrealistic expectations. TV adds much to the problem, with lying ads and PC programs...excellent thoughts.

I think that most all of us who put pen to paper cross a threshold at some point in time. That is an internal transition where we consider ourselves to be a writer. Your kind words and encouragement have helped push me closer to the point of no return, where I put myself in a class with you, the writers of FanStory. I believe that this poem, EXPECTATION, is a seminal piece for me. I want to thank you so very much for taking the time to read and then to review my work. For your kind words and five wonderful stars, I stand in awe! May God bless you! Dr. Nad

I have to give you six stars. I have grandchildren that fit the description that you have so aptly written in your poem. You have the reader doing introspection if they are a teenager, parent or grandparent they can relate at each phase of their life. I marvel at writers such as yourself that can write a poem of this magnitude in nine syllables per line and have it make sense. I think you are going to do very well in your writing endeavors. Nice job.

It is with eyes wide open we work the edges of hope, expectations are little more than pages in life, to write is to share a vision, reach out and touch another, they often fail, but the words work their magic across time, and every once in awhile they do more than meet expectations, they calm a soul, give hope to the hopeless, allow a tear to fall, you are a poet and a writer and have accomplished that, Walt

Hi Dr. Nad,
What an interesting poem you have here...with the culmination of your poem merging with a real, basic problem that humans have...unrealistic expectations. Living happily ever-after? Nope! If you try really hard, you'll achieve your dreams? Well...maybe, but not necessarily. What about focusing on the process, rather than the end result?
God does not owe us anything - I've never thought that. We only owe ourselves the attempt to be a good, authentic person.

Nice job on a thought-provoking piece of work,
Carol

Dr. Nad, you are so right. Many times we're not happy because we
expect so much from everyone else, but maybe not so much from
ourselves. It seems God has already blessed us with so much that
we're not deserving of, but we may at times think we are. Good job
on this poem and a lot to reflect on.

Wow you nailed something and were able to put it in words. Very well done in rhyme and flow. We as humans do expect more in others and ourselves as well and the anger comes at both

You have gone through some important stages here. A couple of things you could tighten up on but your theme was clear. If I can say one thing, try to tighten omitting certain word classes to give it a more dynamic feel in poem form, not just the rhymes but strong deliveries in segments opposed to just telling, for there is promise in your wording, which is good.

Have a good day, author.
My best wishes.

S very well-written poem. We do expect from others to perform the same as we do. Sometimes it is unrealistic because each individual is unique in their own abilities and should be able to perform according to their own abilities the best they can.

This poem made me giggle and reminded me of a friend's perfect man list. To be fair she never married and I always thought she asked too much lol. This is a good poem and thank you for sharing.

Every word is your poem makes excellent sense. The truth mixed with fine rhyming poetry is a winner. Yes, I think you should keep writing. I do have a suggestion for your words at the top of your profile: Change "I haven't ever tried" to "I have never tried". The other is a double negative and I wouldn't want someone to read that first statement and judge you from it. You are a gifted poet and should keep on writing. Well done on this one.
