Once I pointed toward others until seeing three fingers pointing back toward me. Search my heart, Lord, and give me strength to accept the unacceptable. My blessings to you. Well said in poetry.

I think that most all of us who put pen to paper cross a threshold at some point in time. That is an internal transition where we consider ourselves to be a writer. Your kind words and encouragement have helped push me closer to the point of no return, where I put myself in a class with you, the writers of FanStory. I believe that this poem, EXPECTATION, is a seminal piece for me. I want to thank you so very much for taking the time to read and then to review my work. For your kind words and five wonderful stars, I stand in awe! May God bless you! Dr. Nad

Love the chirping chicks with eggs. Fantastic artwork choice. Everything we do turns into a routine pattern of some sorts. I understand your poem. Also, good flow of rhythm and rhymes. Nice work.

We are all guilty of wanting more from others and expecting to get it , but that is so wrong. It's not until we eventually grow up (and that could be well into our adulthood)that we realise the truth. Excellent poem. :)Sandra

Nicely written poem about expecting too much. We need to accept things as they fall and not blame or complain. If we want to reach our expectations, we have to work for them not just think they will come to us.

I agree with you that it is hard to consider yourself a writer sometimes. The feedback you get here is encouraging and makes you want to continue.

    You're welcome.

Hello, my friend,

I love your beautiful life-lesson poem that hits the nail on the head. I especially like the line, "Choices we make have consequences".

This is a wonderful philosophical poem, full of insight and so well expressed too. I liked the use of alternate rhymes in each stanza, and the meter was comfortable and conversational. This poem gives us much to contemplate, and I think I'm in agreement with the final conclusion. The author notes add a lot to the story as well. Thank you for this thought-provoking piece. MM

There is much truth in this. We start off by depending upon others and this leads to us placing expectations on them in our minds that are sometimes unrealistic. It takes time for us to mature and to understand ourselves and others better. Whilst we may be co-dependent or interdependent with others, it is only our own actions that we have control of.

Those who expect and even demand that God bless them, fail to realize that the fact that they have life is a tremendous blessing. With the gift of life firmly in tow, you can accomplish many things, but the rub is you have to do something other than just ask. You must use or somehow acquire the necessary skills to accomplish your goals. What you are likely to discover is that God has helped you in ways that you did not expect.

Yes I think you are completely right in that many expect too much in life, and many times feel the world owes them something at no cost to them. Good word flow and rhyming make it easy to read and understand.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This was a very enjoyable pome to read. The way the connection was made of expectations from childhood up into our adult relationship with God. Tying that in together in this poem was brilliant! Also, stellar job with the 9 syllables straight across the board! Blessings, AmyJo
