You put a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat. To do that in 50 words is remarkable. These stories on a word budget are hard to do well. You did so exceptionally.

What a sweet, sad story. Poor old, dog. They know. Their feelings run deep and hurt if they feel set aside. but it sounds like all was forgive in your very well written story.
Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you. Dogs always forgive humans for most anything. Old Beauty was our family dog and the first dog I can remember. I do recall feeling sorry for her when my dad brought the beagle pup home.

Yes dogs have characters just like humans , I always remember my very first dog as a child a German shepherd called Lucy , she knew meal times and would go get her bowl and bring in her mouth , I always thought that a real neat trick

Oh, what a nice story. I have multiple animals and make sure to dote on each one throughout the day. Dogs especially are like little babies and need our attention. Yours is a very sweet story that I enjoyed. Marilyn

Sweet story and fully told in just fifty words. I love that way you draw out sympathy from the reader in just simple sentences that explain what happened. The ending is indeed just perfect as I can imagine a child doing exactly that.

Thank you. I remember dad getting a beagle pup and Old Beauty being quite upset about it. Animals do feel jealous, I have witnessed it often.

I thought this was well done for only using fifty words. I think this one will do well. Best of luck in the contest.

Take care,

Animals have feelings too and can be jealous or hurt when they are left out. Great job bringing out the emotions and giving it a happy ending. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you. I have often witnessed jealousy in animals. They do have more feelings than most give them credit for.

This fifty word story, Old Beauty, does what I think microfiction should do. It evokes the memory of similar situations in everyone and explodes your story into cascading yesterdays. I am tearing up as I recall our old blue tick hound Skipper. He followed me when I was about twelve years old, like him, as I hiked from one town to another in the severe July heat. I kept telling him to go home but he wouldn't. He eventually fell behind and I forgot about him. I found him in the road on the way back, hours later. He had died of heat exhaustion. You never appreciate a dog's loyalty until it shocks you. I've never forgiven myself. This is the impact of a story like yours.
