What a lovely poem, and one so very timely given the time of year and the fact that it is so painfully true.

The poem is spot on with Antonymn rules. I admire the juxtaposition of the two emotions: heartsick / happiness. Thus, you have balanced the poem and provided a beautiful poem for your readers to ponder.

It breaks my heart to think of all the men and women away from their families for Christmas. I was inspired by a photograph of a soldier holding his infant daughter in an airport before leaving for overseas, and he was sobbing to be leaving her. Thank you for your wonderful reaponse.

Hi,
This is a good poem that expresses
the turmoil that a young one might feel missing their parent at Christmas time.
Having served in the USMC I can understand the sentiments that have been expressed in both the poem and the author's notes.

What a great topic to use for this contest. One can easily imagine the dramatic change from "heartsick" to "happiness" when this little girl sees Daddy on Christmas morning. I do hope this is a reality for many dependents this year.
