Good response for this prompt of darkness.
Here is the crux of the story: 'In a literal blink of my eyes I had entered the black darkness of being blind'
This shows the depth of emotion: 'I was terrified'
I have one suggestion. It is all past tense, with the exception of this line: 'A fair bit of time has passed;' My suggestion is change 'has' to 'had'.

Excellent

A very well-written contest entry. It is extremely realistic and very believable. One minute of fun can lead to such tragedy is so terrible but so true. Your story flowed from beginning to end .
