I grew up in those parts which were even wilder then. I definitely agree with you that these wild cats need to be preserved not shot on sight.
An excellent job of setting the scene, PUTTING US THERE when the cat attacks the goats. Your blank verse is also flawless. I truly enjoyed this poem.

Thanks so much! It seems crazy to me to kill the lion, rather than put in better preventive measures! It sounds as if they'll try!

Yes, your point is well made. Man encroaches on the habitat of wild creatures and begrudges paying the price. I agree with you in that the domesticated animals ought to be protected suitably against the depredations of wild animals. The Mountain Lion in the picture, looks angry , scared and defiant.
And, I'm sorry , but I'm on the Lion's side. It does what it does because that's what its kind does. I'm sorry for the animals that died, but if they weren't protected against such a fate, who is responsible? The poem is eloquent in its statement against the deliberate trapping and killing of animals in their natural habitat. Well done cheers Cass

I do feel for the lady who lost her animals. Apparently they were pet alpacas. I said goats because it just seemed easier in the poem - but I can imagine the shock and tragedy of losing her animals. Yet killing is not a logical choice. You really ought to ensure absolutely the safety of your pets and livestock when living in mountain lion country. It's amazing that it hadn't happened earlier. I would NEVER leave my dogs outside if they could possibly be exposed to a predator - not for ANY reason!! It's a sad lesson and I hope people in our mountains step up and secure their properties, if they haven't already.

Yes this is well written its not fair that the mountain lion is blamed for what they do it is instinct for them , to kill to survive , I am glad the farmer has the help he needs to secure his properties, well done on this write good luck regards Jill

Thank you so much, Roy. I do think it's in our own best interests to protect domestic animals against wildlife. Otherwise, why not just live in the city?

That is so true, we are the ones that are infringing on their territory and pushing them back just like we did the Indians who fought back to no avail. I see extinction coming faster now that we can 'hang' the cat. Very good blank verse and no problems I could see.

Thanks, Barb. I think we humans have a responsibility toward the wild creatures we share the world with - especially when we move into their terrain. These people who want to live in the wilderness but can't stand the wildlife. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen! Lol.
