A small device could quench a thirst
Drawing air to the depths of Earth
A fan at the surface propels this air
To a cooling chamber way down there...
... And just where would "down there" be, pray tell, Yvon? On the surface of this Big Blue Marble we all call home that's known as Mother Earth, I take it?

I've read recently that a few companies are touting their ability to create rain from clouds that would normally produce none. This process is barely understood by the scientific community and has yet to become proven science, nonetheless these devices are being field-tested around the globe. Most people are unaware that weather modification by cloud seeding has gone on for years, and even less are aware of this new technology.

Cloud seeding via ionization technology is highly controversial. When Meteo Systems deployed their WeatherTec system in Abu Dhabi and claimed to make it rain 50 times in the desert, this statement caught the ear of the World Meteorological Organization's Expert Team on Weather Modification, who convened a meeting March 22-24, 2010. Their conclusion: don't believe the hype.

Good poem on an interesting topic.

It is a poem and I didn't want to clutter it with a bunch of technical info. A pear shaped container is berried about 6 feet down where the earth is cooler so the warm air drawn in condenses and gathers on the sides etc. I saw this device and thought I would write about it. It wasn't meant to be an introduction to scientific phenomenon. Just a nice little poem about getting water to some thirsty people. Thanks for your input though. It looks interesting. This was just a poem.

    Woodstock! Cloud seeding?

Yep. It's the latest trend in climate manipulation, Yvon.

No worries, Yvon. I was just passing along some recent info I'd learned pertaining to your poem's topic.
As you know, many of us take climate change very seriously. It's no laughing matter.
    Take care,

I must agree, climate change is serious, especially when politicians, because of big business or complete ignorance, say there is no problem!

    They're only fooling themselves.
Perhaps they should ask the polar bears what they think?

this is a fine piece of poetry dear yvon! your description is very vivid and insightful! i find the underlying message slightly disturbing that barren lands without rain can be irrigated. especially beucase we have caused the drought most likely.
thank you for sharing!
blessings!

I think it was in "The Flight of the Phoenix" that they survivors devised a means of evaporating water in the desert. I guess in a crisis, we get very creative. Well done.

It's hard to believe there would be enough liquid in desert air for this to work. How brilliant. Our earth needs water anyway we can get it without damaging the environment. You've used perfect rhyming quadrants for your description.

Rain in a deserted desert can be one of the greatest things. I live in Wisconsin and rain in November isn't always a great thing, we should be thinking snow, but not this year. It's certainly been weird. Great job

I saw an article where a castaway used a soda can and plastic bottle to evaporate potable water from sea water in the sunshine. Geniuses all around. Excellent poem.

A plastic bag tied to 4 sticks with a small rock in the center, cup below, will also evaporate salt water- to fresh

A very well-written poem. It seems like an interesting devise that can be helpful to withdraw water from the air in times of drought as we experience here at the moment.

I think this is down to condensation, but I am no scientist but I can't be certain. The poem is good and flows well but I wish you had found another solution to this line,

"Water gathers and a pool does form"

"Water gathers and a pool will form" would be a better and more natural solution. The use of "does" adds nothing and is there to force the rhythm into shape. It is no longer regarded as good poetic style.

The rest is fine.

Wonderful write, the ability to add beauty to beauty is as much a great inventron device as turning rain to ice, I loved the narrative of this poem from first to last line, exceptional job.
